I still love my old Beetle.

We talking real air cooled Beetle or one of the new fake ones? If it is the air cooled I am with you. I have a garage full of Beetle parts just waiting for me to get a Beetle to restore.

I hate VW for the quality reason too...
I can honestly say if they made GOOD CARS, I would probably buy one, cause I like the way they look... maybe a GTi or something.

i can honestly say that if a jetta didn't cost $22,000 i would've probably bought one. but at the time a maxima SE was $22,000.

How do you figure "Audi quality is crap"?😕

Audi's are made with much more craftmen's ship and much higher quality parts than VW's. I'm just curious where you are getting your information.

It's true. An Audi and VW both feel very solid and well built when you drive them, but their reliability just sucks. It's a fact, and if you don't believe it feel free to read the consumer reviews over at edmunds. It does depend on the vehicle, but a disturbing number have been rated in the 7s.

You're just lucky you posted that Nissan truck sales thread the other day, NFS4. Otherwise I'd e-punch you in the back of the head for starting another negative VW thread.

And I sure as hell hope VW doesn't start making trucks. That's the last thing this country needs, is more trucks.

The base Jetta is 15k, and the base Maxima SE is 25k at the moment.

Is it just me or is the guy who wrote that article an SUV whore? All these damned economists look at is markets and products so of course his solution for VW is "build trucks".

Yeh base. Slap on leather, a VR6, and a sunroof as options and watch the price climb climb CLIMB! The GLI is just short of $24,000! :Q People who buy that over a Passat are just idiots.

on motortrend tv last week MB and vw were at the bottom of a top ten cars for problems and poor customer service - something kinda new to both these companies as they both thrived in the early to late 90's

I really like VW cars' looks and feel... but they are just too expensive (compare to japanese cars) and too unreliable... Until they prove to me they have improve their reliability (which will likely take a couple of yrs of good track-record), I'm not buying one...

"Is Wayne Brady going to have to choke a bitch???"

Hey, I'm just reporting the news. It's not my fault that all the VW news is negative😀😀😀😀😀😛😛

Well here you go: VW introduces TDI Passat. You didn't post anything about this awesome vehicle. Detroit to Washington DC on a single tank of gas. 247 ft-lbs of torque. And Passat reliability to boot. We should all thank VW for being at the forefront of the (hopeful) diesel revolution in the US.

I believe that VW's quality problems are being cured, but it takes time to convince the public that quality is on the mend.

Funny, I remember reading quotes like this in the early 90s about VW...The more things change the more they stay the same.

I have a '01 Passat GLX v6. No problems here. I LOVE the way it's solidly built. Kicks ass in this regard against any American car.

Maybe the newer models are having problems. I don't know. I did read that reliability with all German makes has gone down. Consumer Reports said that this is the first year in a decade plus that American makes did better in reliability vs. Euro makes.

That still won't prompt me to buy American. I'm in either The German or Japanese camp.
