I'm wondering what might be a typical dinner menu for you single men and women, living out on your own, or with a roomie. I'm talking about the 18 to 30 crowd, but even older or younger if you cook for yourself. Fast food junkie? Frozen food in the microwave?
Or do you take the time to prepare a meal for yourself? If you do cook, what might be a typical dinner? If you don't cook, why not? Do you own any cookbooks? Which ones?
I'm curious about the eating habits of you youngsters.

Do you avoid cooking because you don't like it, or because you don't know how?

Grilled chicken/salmon on the George Foreman!

I also do veggie burgers, subway, quizno's, and chik-fil-a. It's cheap and easy to eat at home dude... and cooking is a cinch if you do it the right way.

I'm single, live alone, and 21. My routine usually consists of:

Schlotzsky's, Hideaway (fantabulous local pizza), Olive Garden, Zio's (local italian kitchen), Thai, Chinese, etc.

So, the only real "fast food" I eat is Schlotzsky's, and they're not exactly fast.

22 and have a roommate. he doens't eat here much, but when he does... we've made sushi, roasted a few turkeys, lots of south indian food (good to have south indian friends), lasagnas, fajitas, lots of different fish. when i'm more to myself its usually some sort of chicken and rice or some jambalya or my homemade spaghetti sauce. the george foreman grill is the best thing ever. plus theres the usual frozen food, like chicken nuggets and fries. love stouffer's mac and cheese.

zio's ain't local! they're everywhere!

I cook up chicken, steak, pork in a variety of fashions..I have the knack I guess..

Lotsa sandwiches from leftovers are always good...and on weekends I'll splurge for whatever..I dont cook on weekends..

Im 31, single (actually girlfriend and she cooks like a champ too!)

I cook myself of course. Pasta or rice with different sauces, only take like 15 min so whats the big deal. There're lots of other dishes which are fairly easy to cook and its much cheaper then eating out.

'm 31 and single(unmarried). I do a lot of cooking for myself and the women in my life. I use the grill a lot for steak, chicken, eggplant, pork chops, burgers, etc.... I also cook a lot of Cajun and Mexican foods. Most of the Cajun recipes I have came from Justin Wilson's cookbooks or just trial and error. My Mexican recipes came from a little old Mexican lady who worked for my mother. I can make some tamales that will seriously burn your stomach lining away. Good stuff... I like to cook Italian as well but I'm not quite as good at that. I can make homemade marinara and alfredo sauces but other than that it's Ragu time. If you classify American as a cuisine I can do that as well. Nothing like a bowl of homemade fiery hot chili on a cold winters night or a nice juicy Yankee pot roast with all the trimmings to nearly make your stomach explode from being full.

Ok...hungry now...time to go home.

<< Hideaway (fantabulous local pizza), >>

I agree....go to the original one in Stillwater sometime. Blows the ones here in Tulsa away!!! If it hadn't been for Hideaway and sorority girls with questionable morals I'm not sure I would have survived college.

I must say I'm surprised so far. I expected to hear many more tales about McDondald's, and frozen TV dinners and the like. Unless, of course, you're all BSing me?

I love cooking Chicken in many different varieties. I always add rice or bread, canned or frozen vegetables, a piece of fruit, and a glass of milk. Presto -- a healthy, nutritious dinner at a low low price! :)

Oh man, you'd get a kick out of me and my roomates (4 of em...well, only 3 of us cook). We eat like kings...homemade spaghetti sauce (recipe's been passed down my roomate's father's side of the family since they came from Italy), chicken & dumplings, couple of turkeys here and there, homemade pizza, fried chicken, venison steaks, country fried steak, salads, beef stew, venison stew, pork tenderloin with ginger, onions, & tomatoes (my specialty), sushi, grilled tuna steaks, fried fish, broiled fish, gumbo, jambalaya, stirfry, barbecue ribs, brisket, chicken, brats...you name it, we've probably cooked it. I only eat fast food when we need to go to the grocery, and I eat out on the weekends.

For dinner I try to cook something big on the weekends that I can heat up and eat all week.

That way I don't get stuck eatting fast food or frozen, and don't have to go through the hassle of cooking every day after work.

I hate that, I like to come home from work and relax.

I cook pasta sauce, stews, chili, that sort of stuff. Put it in little tupperware containers and into the fridge/freezer, and use the microwave all week.

If I run out or forget I tend to do pizza ;)

It cost too much to eat out all the time, but I do at least once a week. Normally I fix homemade pizza, chicken, or fish. I also can do a mean lasagna. Whatever i don't finish that night, ends up as my lunch for work the next day.
