Ok so I need to get rid of about 200+ Tiger Lillies in my backyard. As you know they are a bulbed plant and have some fairly deep roots. My dad wants them 100% gone so they will not grow back. Rather than digging each one up individually...how can I go about getting rid of them. Keep in mind we are going to plant grass in the soil that they are in now eventually.

haha thats the thing... a BUNCH of ppl are asking for bulbs... we gave them to everyone that wants them but there are still TONS left....its a PITA to dig them up..I need an easier way!
Rent a roto-tiller and go over the area multiple times? I dunno if that would work, but it's what I'd do.

haha thats what I was thinking. My dad seriously expects me to dig up ALL of them individually...he offered me $15 an hour to do it to... I just honeslty dont think doing that is gonna 100% get rid of them. There has to be something that will just like get rid of them completely.
The only way to kill a bulbed plant is to damage or remove the bulb itself. Rototilling would be a great solution. Cut the plants off at ground level, sprinkle some MiracleGrow or whatever fertilizer you prefer, toss around some BlackGold topsoil over where you'll be tilling, and till away.

If you're being paid to remove them, go for it. Removing the bulbs guarantees them not coming back. It's good, hard work and you'll be getting cash for it. :thumbsup:
Put up a sign that says "Free Tiger lilies, you dig". When you've completely exhausted the rabid gardeners, rototill. Pick up all the bulbs you see that the tiller brings up, rake and shovel through it to pick them out. Repeat a few times. If you want to spray (assuming roundup is a good killer for that plant), apply the spray a week before you rototill to make sure it gets down to the bulbs.

i dont MIND doing the work..but I AM and american..if theres an easier way Ill take it I hope the plants grow and mutate, and eventually start coming to life covering your entire house....and eventually suffocating you in your sleep as you listen to "Scooter."

well... I dont...its my parents. They are putting up a fence along the backside of our yard (the lilies currently act as a natural fence) and they need to go so we can put grass down there
Don't worry about them too much. If you're going to be laying sod there, they won't be able to survive the frequent mowings.
I'm saying that even if they manage to grow through the sod, the repeated mowings will deprive the plants of sunlight and the bulbs will die.
but wont the bulbs take all the nutrients and what nto from the soil...causing the grass to die?
Of course not. Grass is much much hardier than the bulbs, and when they die, they'll just break down and feed the grass.
