Demon (holley...but better) Can't get a more precise tune than with a holley.

Edelbrock AVS thunder series is creating a bigger and bigger spot in my heart.

I have a Holley I am rebuilding, and DAMN is it more complicated than a quadrojet I rebuilt, but it is much more fun.

I remember the sound of the 4-barrels opening up on my Rochester quadrajet in my Camaro way back when. Ah, the good old days when there were practically no riced cars.

I actually liked the BBD. It never gave me a problem on my old slant 6.

I have used many carbs:

Rochester Quadrajet
Carter Thermoquad
various Holley 4 bbls

Make sure to use all non stick gaskets and all GENUINE holley parts. Real holley parts make a real NO BS differance.

Since its older pick up a power valve saver check valve kit.

I had one on my AMC. I could never get it tuned properly, always ran like total crap and had tons of leaks.
When I gave the car to my sister she had a rebuilt one put on and it still ran like crap.
I considered replacing it with a Holley or a Webber but never had the money to do it.

this gives me the warm fuzzies that at least some people still know what a 'carb' is, other than a term that atkins bastages coined.

Other than one is bigger than the other, there is no diff. What size engine, specs, and altitude are you at. And exactly what carb is it.

Usually it's a matter of how much (and how quickly) fuel gets dispensed. Trial and error to determine which is best for your particular application.

Btw... What's this for, anyway?

Evadman, I never did try a Predator carb. Got out of hot rodding before I had the chance. But I heard they were the bomb.

Use the accelerator nozzles that are on there now. Playing with them is not a job for first timers.

Don't soak the base plate in solvent. There are sleeves that ride in the throttle shafts that will dissintegrate and they are a bitch to re-install.

Also check for throttle shaft play. If there is excessive play, replace the base plate.

Which holley are you rebuilding?

As you can see, I have been there many times.

If anyone ever needs a new base plate due to shaft play, warpage, or cracking PLEASE get a demon baseplate. 1000x better

I have a Holley 4160, list #80457S. 600CFM, no main jets (gotta get some 69's), 44 secondary plate installed, vacuum secondaries (diaphram is ripped, need to replace it). There is no nozzle, the part was missing. the screw whas there, all the other accelerator pump parts were except that. Also missing an O ring on the fuel transfer tube

The vehcile this is going on is a 1974 Dodge D100 Stepside (w/ 318 V8 and an edelbrock D4B or something like that intake). It is basically a Warlock, or a black red exress minus the wood, stacks, and rails.

You could just buy a better carb. Replace it with an 1850 squarebore.

Get a full service kit, not just a rebuild kit. You get all kinds of extra parts that don't come in the rebuild kit.

My problem is that money is tight. A friend gave this to me for free, and so far it looks to need ~75 dollars of parts and etc work to get working right. Plus, I like to know how it works, not just have it work well right away.
