For Win2k users....

Pinkley said he wouldn't advise customers against using Windows 2000, which he said could be securely configured by people properly aware of latest security issues. This goes for any operating system but is all the more important for NT users, according to Activis.

"Building a secure site with Windows 2000 is like looking after a small child. It needs constant attention," said Pinkley, who added that regular vulnerability scanning and security audits are also a good idea for those administering Linux Web servers.

Having a good admin who stays current with issues is always important. All this article really ends up saying is that there are a lot of lazy and sloppy win2k admins out there.

W2K is relatively new compared to NT. There are always going to be security holes that creep up. Remember though that NT 4.0 has had years to deal with these issues. Also remember the location you found this article, the Register has a way of slanting stories to seem worse than they actually are.

A system is only as good as it's administrator, no system becomes secure alone.
