for what purpose did Scottish men choose to wear skirts instead of pants?

You could ask why do some men like to wear skirts.

Because it's comfortable! :)

Why do women wear high heels when they're so impractical and designed for men riding on horse back? Fashion/culture etc.

A real man just covers his or her balls to appease society with whatever is convenient.

One time in the mountains of Colorado in the misty morning I had to poop. There was a fresh port-a-potty nearby. I remember the cool breeze washing my ballsack with its gentle fingers. It was at that moment I knew... epiphany.

Just want to add that I'm so glad it's not generally socially acceptable to wear skirts or dresses as men. Holy shit, taking a dump is hard without having your dress wipe down the entire toilet.

I've seen quite a few men wearing kilts in the past ten years or so. It's certainly not socially UNacceptable. I remember about 20 years ago when I was riding a bus to work in Boulder, there was a fellow I used to see every day who wore a kilt, fishnet stockings and combat boots. He got a few strange looks, but nobody really gave a damn.

It was probably the fishnets rather than the kilt that was getting the odd looks?

Fishnets and hairy legs is not a good look.
