For USB drive backup, Crashplan only or Carbon Copy Cloner too?

For my Mac, I have a 4-year subscription to Crashplan which has worked well to backup my USB media drive to their remote server. It can also backup, for no additional cost, to another local USB drive. To restore, you just initiate it from their app on the Mac. I like to temporarily connect this backup USB drive and then disconnect and place it in a drawer in another room.

I am also in a 30-day trial using Carbon Copy Cloner. Very slick program, nice interface, and when it backs up your media drive, it creates an exact replica on the backup USB drive (no restore program needed). However, past the trial, I have to pay $40 if I want to keep using it. My concern also is it looks like you need to pay an extra $20 each time they update the Mac OSX (could be every other update though).

Should I just use Crashplan and save the cash for something else? Or is Carbon Copy Cloner well worth paying for in addition to Crashplan? Thanks!

I've been using Carbon Copy Cloner for many years and would never use anything else. They don't charge for upgrades with every new version of OS X, they only charge for upgrade with major app updates (which usually coincides with new versions of OS X).

Hopefully it's at least every few versions. I found this on their site as a hopeful predictor:

Yep, should be every 3 or 4 versions that require an upgrade. They've already said the next version compatible with OS X 10.11 will be free upgrade. I think it depends on compatibility and how much work they have to put in for each new version of OS X, plus whatever new features they add or redesigns they do.
