Got lucky, my bulb life is 4000, but it is only warrentied for 500hours. I have almost 1k hours on my 4805 so I cant tell you actual bulb life, but 1000 hours is from 1 year of heavy use just an fyi!

I had my panny 300u for about a year and half, and it had 1700 hours on it when I sold it. I never worried about the bulb life with it, because it was rated to 5000 hours, and I knew I wasn't gonna keep it.

I've had my AE700u for a year & a month & change, and I'm at 1743 hours. It's also rated at 5000 hours when used in low power mode. However, I've ordered another lamp, because there were problems with the early bulbs.

500 hours is all Panny guarantee their bulbs for though, so even with a new bulb, its a crap shoot.

Heavy use HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. With my wife 2 kids and me the tv is on for atleast 12 hours straight a day. If I owned a projector set I would be buying bulbs left and right.

A 3000 bulb life in my home would last 250 days. And for thoes that buy these projectors and dont use them all the time why even bother buying them? You get them to inhance your tv experance but watch tv on a dinky screen unless you want to watch a movie and then have to go counting the hours used so you wont have to go out and buy another bulb. Makes no sense to me. Buy a huge 65" crt and run it all day watching everything when ever you want and enjoy watching Scubs on 65 inches of goodness without having to worry about replacing a $600 bulb and injoy your purchase without a care in the world how many hours are being used 😀

heavy use? how do you "lightly" use a bulb?

If your projector sits on a shelf & doesn't get bounced around that will ad life & so will keeping it down below the ceiling where its not as hot.

I think he meant heavy as in the amount of hours he used it, not the degree to which he was using it while it was on.

Don't think about the cost per year. Think cost per hour.

Say you have an Infocus SP4805. That has a 3000 hour bulb that costs $276 or so. In about a year when it may need to be replaced, it should fall at least another $15 or so. So, let's call the lamp $260.

$260 / 3000 = $0.09

Now, if you can't afford 9 cents for every hour you run this thing a projector probably isn't for you. For reference, this is roughly the electricity cost of running an electric clothes dryer for 5 minutes.

The Infocus X1 is even cheaper to run. $265 current bulb cost, 4000 hour life. If that falls to $250 in a year, that's still a 6 cents per hour pricetag.

BTW, you being the general "you", not talking about you specifically, jimbob200521. 🙂

I look at it like that too.

Is it worth it to me to have a cinematic experience for my movie if it cost an "extra" 20 cents to do it?

Yeah, projectors have bulbs, but how much would it cost to get a conventional display of the sizes we're talking about? There were 4805s going for $499 on black friday.
