A while back I bought a Samsung SP-R4212. I was wondering about Burn-in. The set boast 2 methods of removing burn-in:

All White and Signal pattern.

How effective is this and how often is it safe to perform.

I went a little heavy on GTA San Andreas these past couple weeks and have noticed the top right corner has a remaining image of the game. I have been running the signal pattern for about 20 minutes now.

Go to avsforums and ask for help?

The Pioneer plasmas we have at work can be reset in a way not discussed in manuals as it should only be done 1 or 2 times.

If you can get a hold of it, there is a white dvd for trying to get rid of burn-in. Unfortunately, any method other than getting the part that is burned replaced, rarely work and if they do, it can only be done a couple times at the most like Ihatemyjob has said. Where I work, we don't buy or sell plasmas because there are too many problems. If you don't want burn-in, you gotta go DLP

Ya i got scared because i just got a zenith 50in HDTV plasma which i love. I fell asleep on night watching the patriot and the dam flash screen on that movie doesn't have any changes to it. So when i woke up and turned it off i could see the letters still on the screeen. I was so freakn mad but i gave it 30 min and they disappeared. THank god this think is only a week old. Best of luck to you and let us know if anything works

The set itself has an ALL WHITE option for burn-in removal.

I've seen burn-in on LCD and CRT.

DLP is the only one out of LCD/CRT/Plasma that's widely available and has zero burn-in afaik.

gotta be careful with the LCD. Some companies such as sony say LCD won't burn in. Others say it will. I trust sony's disposition so yes, LCD's are safe from burn-in.

My dell 2005FPW had an error message with an all black background up for about 5 days straight... it was burnt in... although, after LCD's get warm again, the burn in fades, then finally goes away. You can't see a hint of it anymore.

Yeah, if you're a lazy bastard who can't remember to turn the television off when it's not in use.

If LCDs are susceptible to burn in, how come our computer monitors don't all have the windows task bar burned in?

No, he is right, I've seem some variation of burn in on LCDs (My dad has quad LCDs for work and his have a bit of burn in) but burn in on LCDs is quite unusual and I wouldn't worry too much about it unless of course you leave a static image for about 24-a few days straight but for the OP's gaming, I'm sure it's fine.

Frankly I think a lot of folks need to take their plasma & other sets susceptible to burn in off torch mode. I've seen so many of these types of sets with the brightness and contrast set way too high. Use a set of DVD calibration discs for crying out loud, or better yet have it calibrated by an ISF technician.

Your freakn crazy. Tell me anything current that gives as good picture quality and comes in as little as of a space as plasma. LCD sucks compared to plasmas. You can't say SED because they aren't out yet and when they do they might cost to much.

I thought burn in was permanent on plasma?

I know that with LCD monitors, so-called "image persistence" can take a while (e.g., several weeks) to go away when you are using e.g., all white pattern.
