For those who took the new SAT . . .

amol

Lifer
how was it?

I gotta take it in the fall (H.S. Sophomore)

Those on the east coast should be finished with it, west coasters are still probably taking it . . .

Who the hell takes that SAT? I never even seen an SAT or a prep test for one.

Must be a west coast thing?

ive always thought it was best to take both. i dont understand how it could hurt you in any way if you take and do well on both tests. some colleges put more emphasis on one than the other.

😕

You DO know that they made a major change to the SAT, right?

Added a new writing section and a perfect score now is 2400 . . .

edit: OH, you meant, who in their right mind takes the SAT . . . my bad . . .

maybe people who want to go to colleges that put big emphasis on it?

As I understood it back when I was applying to college (6 years ago), most schools just require the ACT...the SAT was only required at schools that were tough to get into (Ivy League types). So I only took the ACT.

As for today's test, my husband is giving the SAT this morning, and he's mad because it's longer with the new section added. He hopes they raise his pay accordingly, but they probably won't. 🙁

id take both ACT and SAT. i took the old SAT back in 2002 and had to take an unofficially college administered ACT as a requirement to apply for this school. to me the ACTs were a joke compared to the SAT. btw i did well on both (>1450, >30). in retrospect, i would have taken an official ACT and submitted that as well as SAT since the cool thing about schools that take the ACT is the reduced (if any) additional SAT II requirements. but with these new SATs i dont think you need to take writing anymore, which used to be a requirement at most schools.

SAT is a joke... I came to the US 4 years ago from Israel and got an 1160 on it with very minimal practice... Don't worry about it, go in and do it. The only thing that sucks is staying focused for 3-4 hours when you start realizing you're taking a dumb test :/

Comparatively speaking, an 1160 is not that good.

i took the SAT and ACT back in 2001 and the ACT was much easier than the SAT. I knew way more ppl with perfect ACT scores than a perfect SAT score

I never took the ACT. Took the SAT w/o practice or studying and got a 1310. Now I know it's not an amazing score but it was enough to get me into college where I wanted to go.

Umm, thanks for pointing out the obvious, Mr. 1600. English isn't my first language, nor did I understand half the math terms on the freakin exam. I come to the USA and 6 months later score and 1160. Comparatively speaking, that's good.

If I was born here, and grew up here, I'd bet I'd have scored lower... Yes, lower... You're smart, you can figure out why...

Some stuff was removed, and they incorporated the SATII Writing section.

true. I took the SAT in the 7th grade in a test by Duke and got something in the upper 800s.
