It doesn't really matter. They are all very close in performance and reliability. I'd just buy the one that appeals to you the most.

Are you buying a bike? Do you have any experience riding?

Yes I plan on buying one with the money I make this summer, but I won't be buying until next summer( I live in the northeast). I have only experience riding on the back of my uncles harley a few times, but I plan to take a bike safety courses this summer with a friend.

Ha! no I was looking along the lines of 600cc's..I just want to know if there is a best/more reliable brand. They all pretty much look the same ( except hayabus and the zx 14). Atleast to me.

buy a Ninja250, ride it for a year, then sell it. You don't want to be behind a CBR600/R6/ZX6R with no experience.

Agreed. Don't start out on a super sport. They are very fast and not a good choice for someone who has never ridden.

More than likely your going to wreck your first bike. Not saying you'll be hospitalized or anything like that probably just lay your bike over or something like that, nothing serious. All the bikes are so close in quality and performance that it really comes down to personal preference or looks. Go with a quality used bike for the first time. Then maybe later get a new one. It doesn't matter if you have a zx-14 or a ninja 250 if your out riding like a dumb ass your gonna get yourself hurt. Having a neutered bike does you no good you can have the fastest bike in the world and just ride sensibly and be just as safe as any other bike. I have been riding on the street for 5 years and never had a wreck. I grew up riding dirt bikes though so it was a easy transition to the street.

If I had the money and got my M-License, I'd get a Triumph Daytona 600  (If I could find one)

But really a 600 is too much power for a new rider, actually it's a lot more power than anyone really needs for anything really, except professional racers, just like expensive sports cars or riced up cars. I would look for something that has just as nice of a body as these 600s but with a smaller 250cc engine. Cheaper on insurance too.

Not sure how many exist though, think 400s used to be made by most of the brands. Suzuki GS500 is a nice starter bike. Honda CBR125R is good looking but just a bit too underpowered I would imagine (top speed of ~70mph).

I'm currently on a Kawasaki Ninja 250r. Its the only bike I've ridden (except for the Kawasaki Eliminator I used for my MSF course). I'm not partial to any brands, however, I'd especially like to try out the GSXR-600 and/or CBR600RR.

The next bike I actually buy will either be a Ninja 650r/Versys/ER-6n or a BMW G650GS.

They all vary just slightly in power from year to year. With what they've been releasing in the last 3-4 years I would say reliability is also very close (read:good). I love my Honda CBR 600 but Yamaha rules in the looks department IMO.

In my many years of riding, every single Gixxer owner has successfully fit the snobby douchebag profile precisely (please keep in mind, I'm referring specifically to my city). Typically the only exception to this rule are some of the older guys who ride Busa's because they're too big for smaller bikes and don't want a cruiser. I've owned Honda's, Yamaha's, and been steady with Kawi for my last 3 bikes (ZZR700, ZX636, and pleasantly content with my current ZX10R) and I would NEVER buy the ugly george forman fucking grill ZX14R.

My advice? If you absolutely must have something that looks like a crotch rocket, look at a EX650 Ninja or comparable from other manufacturers. It's not as deadly as a 600cc supersport, the riding position is upright and not aggressive so it's easy to be comfortable and learn, and it's relatively inexpensive so the inevitable falls/gravel/oops won't matter as much. Plastic is easy to replace. I would not recommend a 600 or above supersport for any beginner.

If aesthetics isn't that important, find a good SV650 or an older Bandit, Katana, Nighthawk, etc. All are great learners bikes and 90's-somethings can usually be found for $1500-2000.

Enjoy. Use a lid.

For me Suzuki, although I have owned Yamaha and Kawasaki. Suzuki is the best package of performance and reliability for the dollar.

Most douchebags I've encountered ride .... Harleys.

It is good advice to start on a smaller bike, like a 250 or a 400 or 500. Please learn to ride in the dirt first, it will save you a lot of pain.

Truer words were never typed. Where I live we call them the Dr. Weekend Adventure. Dentists, laywers, etc, who refuse to venture out into the world on their bike if their harley t-shirt is dirty. They're usually riding a girls harley, anyway!

I own a Honda but I like them all. I don't have a brand preference.

I've had two hondas, gixxer and now an R6. I can't say that I have a preference, maybe the gixxer slightly because it came with a steering shock stock. On the flip side it did feel a lot heavier/porkier compared to the R6 and I'd say the R6 has crispier throttle response also. Then again the gixxer felt porkier compared to my brother's f4i also, so who knows.

But who knows, you can't really tell the difference between 0-60 in 3.05 or 3.1

Sportster...duh.

It's a term that dumbfucks use to belittle people who ride those bikes.

It's funny the guys that are usually making fun of those on 'sissy harleys' are usually the crotch rocket riders that will never even ride to 5/10's of their bikes ability all the while wearing more gear than the average dude in an actual race.

It usually comes down to those bashing the Harley guys are either bashing them due to the money they have or the free time to ride or the lack of fear of riding they show.
