Check out Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. Don't want to spoil anything, but watch it at least through episode 3 before you make any judgements - there's a couple of great twists.

It's fansubbed by a group called Lunar. Google is your friend.

kiminozo was good till... like eps13. the ending was WEAK regardless of which heroine you wanted narumi to get together with (now thats another beef i have with the ending, a whole different story on its own). never liked the drawing style of the original game, so it was only natural the anime version didnt impress me in the visual department either.

maybe its just me, i would recommned D.C. Da capo over kiminozo anyday : way better drawing (subjectively speaking), great sense of humor and overall well-done conversion from game -> anime. however, its a close call in terms of music; "Hoshi no Waltz(2nd ED)" alone is makes kiminozo outstanding, then there is "Precious Memories(OP)" and "Tooi Natsu no Hi(DVD OP)", while da capo has "Sakura saku mirai koiyume(OP)", "Mirai e no Melody(1st ED)" and all those songs on D.C. Dolce album including "Sonzai(eps21-25 ED)". in fact, they are some of my all time favorite songs :D of course there are many other visual novel based animes, i was just making a comparison as they seem to belong in the same group (a bit of light humor, serious rivalry going on, the way the shows change drastically in the middle and such)

among july newcomers, wind ~a breath of heart~ and hanihani (Operation Sanctuary) are great - typical visual novel solid plot and cute drawing, both made by RADIX. I seen two episodes of each so far, enjoyable yet enconding quality of currently available files leave much to be desired :( Girls Bravo reminded me of bits and pieces from various shows like maburaho, vandread, kkm and so on.. judging from what i seen in the first episode this would make another instant hit. Elfen Lied seems promising, scheduled to be first aired on July 25th. 2x2 Shinobuden, although not something i would classify as romance anime, deserves a mention as the most impressive show of the new july bunch (only second to GA 4th season, but its the long waited angels making a comeback, duh :p).

Hopefully these would be enough to fill the void caused by recent finale of two quality shows, namely Daphne in the Brilliant Blue and Midori no Hibi.

EDIT : I CANT STAND DearS! easily the worst show of july >.<

hey now :) i need to spend way more time on anime to be called an otaku :p

this thread might be the answer for you, many series ported to consoles seem to go non-hentai from the original pc version (so pc gamers are considered the naughty ones after all :D). sakura taisen is another example.
i will admit i am not much of a dating sim person. they make excellent medium (or motivation) for learning the japanese language, but i get overwhelmed by the sheer number of those games out there.... cant play them all

Exactly, just as in real life you don't date for points. :)

Thanks for the heads-up on Da Capo, haven't heard of it before but I am checking it out. I try to follow all of the "good" anime, regardless of genre. Some otaku would probably smack me if they saw my FLCL box sitting next to Abenobashi, Bebop, Love Hina, and Ai Yori Aoshi. :)

Wind is looking very good, although the digital panning is really getting to me, which is not a good sign considering they're on ep. 2. Really liking Hani Hani, although the midget teacher bugs me.

Midori no Hibi was great. "Right-hand girlfiend" is an original concept, if nothing else. The fact it had an engaging story and good production quality was a bouns. :)

after all i am no otaku at all, rather a huge fan of aoichan and ai yori aoshi. moreover, i am wondering if they would make an addition to Please! collection for 2004 :D

digital panning
yeah i noticed that also... looks very cheesy to put it nicely. glad you liked em tho :)

ugh! can u say Sensei no Ojikan  this show was somewhat interesting in first few episodes but things grew old quick. really made look around and say "hey, why am i watching this?" o_O

It was late and I was tired, so I didn't try to address my thoughts on the ending of KGNE. I do agree with you that the show was noticably better in the first half than the second. I also agree that the indecision was no longer dramatic and really got to the point of rediculous. That being said, I did like in general how KGNE stayed true to the very real idea that you can never go back. In the context of the show, no matter how much Narumi wanted things to go back to like they were in high school (I'm being deliberatly obtuse here as to avoid any killer spoilers), it couldn't happen.

It wouldn't win any awards, but it was a good show and a refreshing change of pace for me.
