For those who have taken the GRE recently...

I *think* that mine was a math section. (I took mine July 2003) And yes, they do have an analytical writing section now. I didn't think it was too bad, although the lack of a spell checker was a pain. Good luck with it! (and what field are you looking into?)

Took it at the beginning of November and had 2 verbal and 1 math + 2 essays. No analytical/logic section since Fall '02. Good luck on yours.

Yeah they got rid of the analytical a while back. Uh, studied much? I'd recommend maybe familiarizing yourself with the test and not walking in cold. Take the sample computer tests at least, if for no other reason than to figure out the pacing of the test. The writing time limit can screw you over if you're not prepared. There are 2 separate writing assignments BTW.

I took it a few months ago and the experimental section was math using the experimental calculator app, which looks like a relic from 1988 just like their whole test program. It's clearly labeled "experimental," and to get you to actually attempt it they offer cash to the highest scorers in the country, unlike (IIRC) what the bastards used to do which was not tell you which one was the experimental/research section and just make you sweat through about 25% more work.

Cash prize, eh? How interesting.

Thanks to all the responses and for the well wishes... I'll report back after it's over (12/18) and will let you know how it goes. I've been studying with a Kaplan CD. :\

I did 1 essay portion, 2 verbal and 1 math on my GREs (Dec 03/2004). I was worried because one of the Verbal exams was tough but my score came out good 🙂

I took it last Oct. and had 2 verbal sections, 1 math, and 2 essays, so one of the extra verbal sections was the "experimental", although I had no way of knowing which one. It's not labeled any differently or anything.
