For those who have played both - how does Burnout Paradise compare to TDU?

I've given up on continuing my long running TDU game because of the infernal DRM. I was hoping to get it to 100% but it's not going to happen; it's too much of a bother. I need another open world, sandbox-type driver with cool cars and tons of quests/races to do.

One thing I lked about TDU was the "realistic" feel of the experience. Of course, the physics were arcadey but the game really made you feel like you were driving around a huge island without going overboard with stuff like floating power-ups etc. It was the perfect "load up for 1/2 an hour, do a quest or two, and quit" game for me, and I need to fill that void.

Does Burnout Paradise have a similar feel to TDU?

(As far as TDU 2 goes - I hated it)

There is also the latest Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, which is made by the same guys who made Burnout, but with real world cars. Its like Burnout Paradise without the "extreme".

I happen to have a video of if that I made a long time ago.

I have the new NFS:HP. It's also sorta fun in it's own way, but it's not like TDU.

I guess I'll zero in on BP.

BP doesnt have questing, you drive to an intersection and start events. That wasnt seen as a positive when the game was first released. At some point they let you restart races without driving back to the origin point, otherwise you are driving around like NFS:HP's free roam mode. Another one was Midnight Club LA which might be closer to what you want, but I dont know if it was ever released on PC, as I played it on PS3.
