went from a 20.1" + 17" square -> 24" + 20.1" and the improvement was great. i wouldnt know anything about using just a single monitor tho, haven't done that for 3 years. dual monitors are a must

With your rig, OCguy, it does not make sense that you would have a $5000 rig pushing a $200 display.

The jump to a 24" monitor is great, but the best is gaming on an HDTV.

Keep in mind there are some LCD monitors that feature 120Hz. These are simply monitors and aren't those that have tuners. I think there will be more LCD monitors that will have TV-like features: 120Hz, LED backlight with local dimming, motion interpolation, etc.

gaming on a large 30"+ HDTV is not good if you're sitting 2-3 feet fromt it. most people sit 2-3 feet from their monitors during normal usage. the pixels will look huge.

i'd preger 1920x1200 24-27in from 2-3 feet away

I dont get when some of you say "The Resloution is worth it"

I can understand the more DPI the better but I just did some math

1680x1050 has 76 DPI about v 1920x1200 has 80 DPI

I divided 1680 / 22 = 76 I know a 22" screen is only 19" wide so math is off but equal to both..

So all your getting is the same DPI (almost) on a 2" bigger screen so I see no resloution increase or am I in error :)

Whats up with this 30" lcd monitor being $1300(Samsung 30"), are 30" monitors greatly overpriced in general or something?

ps: this is the only 30" ncix has.

Not overpriced, just expensive. Ya, most are 4 digits.

What I meant is that 1920x1200 displays more (regardless of physical size) of an image than 1920x1080 or 1680x1050. When I'm looking at pictures I've taken with my camera for instance, I can see more of the picture (assuming I don't want to have it fit to my display). I'm not sure about others, but I meant that there is acutally more pixels to display things with.

I'm actually thinking of going in the reverse, from a 24" TN panel to a 22" e-IPS panel. Dell had a deal for a UltraSharp 2209WA 22" 5ms Widescreen e-IPS LCD Monitor w/ DVI for $207. I was going to jump on it as I know someone who'll buy my Acer 24" for about the same price so it would have been an even swap and I get newer monitor with 3 year warranty. The deal is dead now but I may go for it once they lower it again.

I like my Acer a lot, but it's 2.5 years old so the warranty is going to run out soon. I've also heard about how IPS LCDs have better color and viewing angles, although neither of those things really bothered me with my TN panel. I've never own an IPS panel so I can't really compare. Decisions decisions...
