If anyone has a significant collection of photography gear (or any collection of gear: computers, firearms, collectibles), I strongly recommend looking into a Personal Property insurance policy through your homeowners or renters insurance company, assuming you have one.

What I discovered a few years ago is that while the overall policy does cover most of what we own, there are limits within certain categories that require additional coverage. The additional coverage is actually VERY cheap (about $22/yr for me) but expands the basic coverage to include my wife's jewelry, my Oriental rugs, and my photography gear, which would not be covered completely under the base policy.

This thread is a reminder to me because I need to send a revised appraisal of my most expensive rug and the serial numbers for my lenses to the insurance company. Now that I've added some pricey glass in the last few months, I need to get it done already! :)
