For those who hates Dell..You're not alone...

Finally people are getting the point. I've had so much trouble with this stupid company.
Same here, very difficult to deal with. It's almost like they are too big now. Gateway should try to regain their lost market share with some campaign dealing with real support by educated people.

I get a kick out of the people that speak English on the Dell commercials that are in the "support center". It seems to me that's false advertising. I'm spending twice as much time on the phone with Dell Tech Support than I used to because neither of us can understand the other person.

Friend got a brand spanking new laptop but the screen would just shut off if you wiggled it. They sent him new LCD to change himself. Didn't fix it. He sent it back to them, they sent it back with a note saying they couldn't find anything wrong. After a bit more run around he is waiting on a new one to arrive at the moment.

Damn all these anit-Dell horror stories (trust me I have my own collection) are starting to make me paranoid. I was thinking my next laptop might be a 8600 or 600m.

Maybe I will bite the bullet and get an IBM ThinkPad R or T series or even Compaq X1000.

There's a plastic piece that sticks off of the top of the laptop and inserts into a hole on the base of the laptop above the keyboard. It then presses a button that shuts off the screen. I've heard of people having problems with the new Dells where the button gets stuck. I'm not sure if there's any good way for him to check that but it's my guess.

edit: I did a really bad job explaining that. Top of laptop = screen side

Actually I just went over his situation again with him. It had three screens put in it. The first two burned in almost right away and the third is the one with the loose connection somewhere. He has the "gold service" plan but he still has been dealing with a broken new laptop for like a month and a half.

Sounds about right to me. In my time with my (single) Dell I've had 6-7 monitors, 8-9 graphics cards, 2 motherboards, 2 sticks of RAM, 2 system fans and I think a couple of pieces that I'm forgetting. Tell your friend that he's got about 3 displays to go before he'll get a decent one. I only stopped with getting replacement monitors because the one I have now works properly although it still isn't everything it should be and I just wasn't willing to give it up. That and the ladies at the front desk at my dorm were getting sick of me shipping 70lbs boxes.

No man, Harpal's my friend. I would never badmouth him. Its all the other people over there. 😀

Damn, I just helped a non-computer type friend of mine buy a Dell because I didn't want to be his tech support. Figured if I didn't build it for him, he could depend on them for support and not me, looks like that could backfire! Oops!

Speaking of Dell, whats the original dell dude up to?None of this stuff was going on when he rode the high plains of dell.

🙂 I know most of you have had bad experienced with dell support or product in general. I had problem with dell sometimes, but for the most part they are pretty good compared to other manufacture. I have dell xps-r 450 with its 21" monitor since 98 and never had a problem. I've upgrade most of the component inside, but most of the major stuff are still working (psu, cpu, mb, ram). I almost work with dell in weekly basis because all of our computers are dell. I find it hard to belive, but I think I can speak indian english now 😀

I guess I've just been lucky. I bought a dimension 4550 that's over a year old now, and a inspiron 5100. I haven't had problems with either one. Knock on wood. The small issues that I have run into were posted in their or microsoft's knowledge bases.

For my company, I love Dell. Most times, their online support is more than enough, and if I need an exchange on a part, I just contact my sales rep.

As for their tech support, I really don't have a hard time understanding them. Of course, I worked as a bank teller for 4 years, and I would guess that 20% of my customers were Indian gas station / laudymat owners.

Six friends with broken Dells. I've spent well over a week total fixing them, because the tech support people a.) either can't understand what they are saying or b.) my friends can't understand them, c.) the Dell people never show up, d.) the Dell people send DOA equipment, e.) the Dell people simply send the wrong parts.

Dell used to be good, until they started outsourcing. Their hardware may be good, but until they follow it up with support it doesn't mean j@ck.

I think that Gateway could make a huge comeback by advertising that they use only American's with their tech support, and building their computers. Seems like a lot of people would flee to them.
