For those who don't receive health insurance from work

Which company do you buy health insurance from and how much do you pay per month? I need health insurance and would like to know how much others are paying and what's a good company to buy from.

If it's available in your area, Kaiser is about $250/mo. for a single person for complete coverage (medical, prescription, dental, vision).

That's more than I could afford with part time work. I think I can get Blue Cross Blue Shield for $180/month but I'm still looking for more options..

At that price, I imagine it's just going to be straight medical, with no dental or vision coverage, and a hefty annual deductible.

I paid about $200/month for Blue Cross after a layoff. Glad my wife searched around while I searched for work. The state run version was $750!

Well, I'm not too worried about the dental or vision at this point. I just need short term medical coverage until I find myself full time work after I graduate this May.

On another note, anyone have any experience with GradMed?

Zero. I'm young, nothing could ever possibly happen to me that I'd need it.

Ha, don't ever get in a serious accident with an illegal immigrant.

Yeah, but when you DO get in some kind of physical trouble the state's gonna pay your bills 'cuz you're a lazy dumbass who won't get insurance

I pay 66/month for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and have a high deductable - $5000. No dental.

It is basically catastrophy insurance.

I've had to go to the doctor a couple times this year and it has been about $500 out of pocket.

I don't get benefits through work, but I get free benefits from my wife's work, best Kaiser plan available. The irony is, I work at Kaiser.

My wife, who is between jobs, picked up a short-term 3 month plan for about $230/total through BCBS. I don't remember the exact details, but it's medical only, and basically just for emergencies.
