Why is it not efficient? Would it be more efficient to have the white collar worker produce a service rather than stay at home watching TV and partying it up with his unemployed friends?
Yeah those who were use to making a grand a week are really partying it up on $250 a week.

The most efficient allocation of labor is to have all individuals working in the highest position that they are able to successfully handle, in a field/task that they are educated / experienced / trained in.

And the least efficient is paying them to do nothing when there is a job that produces something.

Apple farmers flying people in from Jamaica to pick their crops.

This is just sad.

Exactly! If we made people work a hard day's labor for their food stamps, we wouldn't need to ship workers in from Jamaica and pay them absurd wages. We have all the labor we need right here in the USA. Just make the people on welfare and food stamps do what the illegals did. If they don't like it, then they can leave the welfare system.

I got friends, small business owners, who pay themselves for 6 months and go on UE for 12 ...rinse repeat and extra 12K-18K in pocket each year. Good little scam but I don't like looking over my shoulder.

why work when you can get money for free?

Depends how much. Can I fish every day. Hunt? Still afford a decent house and hobbies... You know the social welfare net does no provide that therefore 90% of us are working our ass off.

I know one guy (who happens to be a rampant conservative) that abuses the hell out of unemployment and has been using it the last year or so to fund a business he's starting up.

I personally hope they cut it off completely.

Never mind just cutting off, he should be going to jail for fraud.

Not surprised it is a Republican.

He would be the first to scream in here about abuses and I bet he is on Rush, Hannity and Levin as well.

Fishing and hunting every day? Be careful, if you fish and hunt too much the IRS might count that as taxable income.

From the article
Must be able to lift 60 pounds, climb a ladder while carrying 40 pounds and endure "wet orchards in temperatures from 30 to 100 degrees," the ads said.

Pay: At least $9.19 an hour. But because workers are paid by how much they pick, the average last year was $16.48 an hour for picking cherries and $12.19 an hour for apples, according to the state.
What's so absurd about those wages, most of it's what they call Piece Work where you get paid by the amount you do. Of course most Americans wouldn't be able to come close to the average, in fact most Americans would probably injure themselves within a week. I bet those Farmers would prefer to have Mexicans do the job because they'd work harder and be more effecient.

Ya, ship people from jamaca here to the US to do these jobs while Americans are on Food stamps and welfare partying it up on the taxpayer dime. that sounds VERY efficient.
