For those that have Windows Vista now

Most people say Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft ever made. Is it a compelling upgrade for Vista users (for those that have used both)? I ask because I usually don't buy into hype but people here (and elsewhere) swear the hype is real.

I will only for the main machine, but thats cause I like playing with new things. I don't see any reason to change my laptop, media centre and lan machine over to win 7. (Mostly cause I already paid for those Vista licences)

Excluding win 7, vista is the best os microsoft has made to date. Win 7 is just a much more optimised and tweaked version of it.

from what i have read comparing vista SP2 and the latest build of 7 they are about even so i am staying with vista

Yep and the reason why I won't be jumping to it for a while. I just got Vista in November and the differences aren't that huge at all. It's a good OS but not new enough. The ones that are saying that W7 is the best Windows OS ever made are the Vista haters or ones that haven't even tried Vista which are probably jsut more Vista haters.

Win 7 is better and a lot can be done with the new taskbar and jump lists. But I may stick with vista... been running RC and beta since release and i like it a lot.

Windows 7 is all round better than Vista. I was going to hold out until release but I downloaded 7 the other day and I'm loving it so far.

It depends on the price. W7 does have a couple of things I specifically like (mainly Libraries) but at the same time it's not a big step up from Vista. So if it's not particularly cheap I'm likely going to stay with Vista.

I dual booted XP Pro and Vista Ultimate X64 thinking I would slowly osmose over to Vista...after a year it never happened.
I put W7 on and now after a month it's my main OS.

And like others say, it's hard to put a finger on specific features, it's the whole "look and feel". Hardware/software support is great right out of the box.

XP to Win7 is well worth it IMHO,Vista SP2 to Win7 hmm not a big jump however its optimized better for low spec hardware and has a few new features.

I've two Vista SP2 PCs and Win7 RC PC,personally I'm doing a full hardware upgrade in Oct/Nov since my 3800+ x2 CPU/motherboard/ram etc... is getting a bit long in the tooth,I'm going to replace my OEM Vista with OEM Win7 version ,my other PC I'll stay Vista SP2.
I think some of the hype is from XP to Win7 users that have stayed away from Vista,I think Win7 is a bit hyped(nothing wrong with the OS however).

I did not notice any real difference unless you run it on low end hardware(1GB ram etc),anyway Vista SP2 or Win7 are both very good operating systems IMHO so can't go wrong with either to be honest.
I guess you could say I'll be sticking with both Vista and Win7 until Win8 arrives .

I'm pretty pleased with Vista overall. Some of the SSD-related tweaks in Windows 7 sound interesting, so if I had an SSD, that would be one compelling aspect of Win7 to think about. But I'm waiting a little while before switching to SSD, because it sounds like the technology is still in the maturing stage.

I already upgraded my Vista laptop to 7 RC and will likely purchase it on release. Likewise with my XP desktop.

IDK I might wait until Win 7 succesor released then win 7 will be cheaper to upgrade from both win xp and vista

Depends on the cost. If its too pricey, then I'll wait longer. As it stands, you shouldn't buy an MS operating system on launch day.

Normally thats true however I think Win7 will be ok on launch day since its based off Vista which has matured and got better overtime, unlike XP to Vista which was a major OS redesign from XP,plus it has the added bonus of able to use Vista drivers in most cases ,so driver support at launch should be fine too,even now as you know quite a few companies have released Win7 drivers.

Pricing is supposed to be around the same as Vista so that leaves usual minor bug fixing/improvements etc via Windows Update and service pack for Win7 at a later date.

I think most of those have been fixed plus they still got time to fix a few more.

It can be fun playing with a new retail OS at launch,I had good postive experience with XP and Vista at launch.

Hi All,

I'd normally wait until at least SP1 for a new OS release but having put the Windows 7 RC through its paces, I have to say I'm seriously leaning to buying a copy after it's released and putting it on a separate box. Don't get me wrong, Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP2 is purring along like a fluffy kitten without so much as a hiccup. I will keep Vista on a separate box (dual booting with XP) but I will build another box and put Windows 7 on it.
