For those that have owned a full size truck or SUV

Can you ever go back to a car?

After driving a full size pick-up or SUV for the last 15 years or so, cars seem so weird to me. You cant see a damn thing, you can hardly see around other cars. The odd seating position with your legs sticking out in front of you instead of the more chair like seating of a truck/SUV. The whole deal of having to twist and climb out of car instead of just jumping out onto the ground.

I keep thinking I will buy a car to drive on some days at work when I really dont need my truck, but I just cant ever seem to find a car that feels comfortable to me.

Can you ever go back, or to you just have to force yourself to change?

I've owned about seven cars but my latest vehicle is a 98 F150 Ex Cab 4x4. I can tell you right now I'll never go back. For anything less than a supercar that is 😉 Serious though, every time I drive a friends car of whatever it drives me nuts. I'm a converted truck owner for life.

Tho I'm only 18... I've driven different vehicles, belonging to different people.... about 6 cars and 6 trucks... and I just bought a '99 Ford Explorer. I've only had it for about 1 1/2 months now... and I can't stand cars any more. Even my mom's car... a 2002 Buick Regal... that's what I used to drive everywhere. Now, even if her car is free, and I can take it... I take my "truck" (call it that, tho it's an SUV).

In the last 4.5 years I had a Dodge RAM 4X4 then a Yukon 4X4 then Tahoe 4X4, now I'm in a Maxima.
I hate it, especially in traffic or I feel like road ragin'.

Nope I drive the biggest truck made (F-350 w/ PSD) and it's still to small. Perhaps I will get a commerical vechile like a C4500 with the duramax next time.

I already looked at one but it does'nt come in 4x4🙁

Tahoes are nice. Rides like a caddilac with plushy seats and plenty of room. Best SUV evar.

Absolutely NO! Hell, it was difficult enough trading in my custom van for a Ford Expedition last month.

I like them both (I like driving almost anything, actually), but I prefer not to use twice as much gas as I need to when it's just me or me and one other person. So, the Civic stays. It's very easy to park in open spaces that some others need to pass up, and that's a big plus for a city dweller. But mainly, I've always prefered to drive cars that average about 30 MPG around town. If I'm not moving lots of stuff, I see no need to get fewer than 30 MPG. Thankfully, not everyone else feels the same way as I do about fuel efficiency, so I can almost always find a truck or van to use if I need one.

I owned a Dodge Ram and then traded it for a Honda Accord. The Accord is a nice sedan, but I would much rather drive the truck. They are more comfortable on longer drives, which I do a lot of. And yeah not being able to see over other vehicles sucks ass. My next vehicle will be a crew cab tacoma probably. Though the Accord has better gas mileage which will be hard to give up.

I drive a 96 Chevy K1500 extended cab 4x4 truck (full size) and hate cars. The last two times I've had to drive on trips, I've gotten a rental car and it sucks. I feel so damned unsafe being so low to the ground. Also, I hear what you are saying about only seeing the butts of that vehicles around you. I can't stand not being able to see what is going on around me.

When I move out of Alaska, I'll probably end up getting a car for the economy aspect of it, but it'll probably be something like Subaru Outback, etc.

<---- Truck owner and will always be a truck owner.

I went from a Ram 1500 4x4 Sport to an Olds Aurora. I like them both, but to be honest, I prefer the car. I loved the truck, but I drive in a lot of traffic, so the car is a lot easier to manuever and piss people off!

Still have a conversion van for hauling and what not, but I'd still rather use my car most of the time. It doesn't have the view of the road, but it's got plenty of elbow room and it's easy to get in and out of. Quite a bit more nimble than the van, too. Take one out for a test drive and see if it doesn't suit you a little better.

I know what you mean about being cramped up in a car. We were pretty disappointed in my wife's Grand Marquis. It doesn't seem nearly as comfortable as my car. Too cramped in the front, and especially the back seat. She wants to trade it in a an SUV. I told her to wait till gas prices go up. That way the SUV prices will drop quite a bit. We'll be buying a used one, so no doubt it will be domestic. Not sure which, but it will need all the bells and whistles.

<<< drives a Rodeo

We also have an Accord that I drive for repeated short-trips. I hate it, but it saves me gas money. That's the ONLY disadvantage to an SUV, IMO. SUVs (mid-size - the original) are a fun ride.

F-150 owner.

I've been driving trucks since 1991 and I'll never own a car if I can help it. I hate driving cars now. So much nicer to be able to see traffic up ahead of you a bit.

When I first got my license, I swapped back and forth between my compact hatchback and a full size 4WD truck all the time. Size has never bothered me.

I have never actual owned one but have driven and riden them aplenty. I drive Mercury Grand Marquis and mercury cougars (the older RWD V8 models).

I will take a big quite smooth riding car over a 4wd truck or SUV anyday, easier on gas too, nothing beats a grand marquis on a long trip exp. maybe a town car.

I grew up learining to drive in my mom's Jeep Cherokee and my dad's F150. I have a Bonneville now. I've gotten used to it for the most part, but my hamstrings get pnched from having my legs out in front of me, and I don't like not being able to see stuff as well, and it took me quite a few months to adapt to sliding out of the car instead of jumping down. I definitely do prefer trucks. But I'd also like to have a small car for efficiency, manueverability and agility. Parking in my Behemothville sucks. 🙂

i drive a mini tacoma so it's pretty much like a car, but it still rides like a truck. can't wait til i can afford a real truck, like a silverado 2500 with duramax

I always had cars up until 6 months ago when I got the Ram. Although I could drive a car occasionally if I had too, giving up the utility and comfort of my truck would be hard... I'm a truck guy now. 🙂
