I had this case on my 3G and it saved it from some nasty spills, so I intend to use the same case on my iphone 4 to keep it alive as long as possible. It also comes with 2 screen protectors (which are quite good) and a universal dock adapter so you can use your dock/radio/etc with the case still on as long as your dock supports it.

I actually prefer the iPhones in a case with my hands. Apple makes very thin/small devices which to me are a tad too small. Add a thicker case like this and it feels right and is safer.
 
I have this on the 3gs, just dropped it yesterday from 4' and no damage/scratches/anything.

how hard is it to press the volume buttons with this case? i had a soft rubbery one on my iphone4 with that style of button (raised bump) and it was a pain to press them easily

Don't know... It's only been out for 3 days and it's been sold out since day 1. The one for the 3G was fine.
