I must admit this game was pretty intense at first. With surround sound you can hear exactly where aliens are teleporting or if a zombie is coming from behind. The random droppings of body parts, steel plates, and bodies in general added onto the fun factor. Towards the middle of the game, everything seems very repetitive. The game was still "scary" but it was more of a predictable kind of suspense. When I step into a room, I know I'm going to get ambushed and after being ambushed down to 10 health, there's always health packs and stations. I thought id put too many health packs and stations everywhere. It made the game too easy.

The graphics were very impressive. The lighting from a plasma gun onto the wall and the huge blood veins running through the complex were eye openers for me. The level with the Hell's Guardian boss was pretty neat. The trip on the montrail with the view of the outside was breathtaking. I'm sure everyone else would agree that doom had pretty impressive graphics at this time.

overall, there isn't any interactivity. I can shoot chairs and screens but i can't move cardboard boxes. As for doom being dark, it's supposed to be dark. As for the flashlight w/o gun (i played the entire game w/o duct tape mod) it was managable but stupid. The weapons didn't have umph that ohter games had. the plasma gun sounds like a silenced machine gun. the bfg looks like a fat machine gun. and the machine gun looks like it's from halo. The bodies of my enemies disappear so I can't appreciate the work that id did on those models.

this seems like one of those love it or hate it games and i'm leaning towards the eeehhh side.

I decided to play on my front projection screen in my video room. a 10' screen on high quality with 7.2 suround sound and two 170watt bases. NEVER EVER DO THIS!!! a pitch black room with life sized monster actually jumping out at you. I had a friend in the room and when I couldn't take it I asked if he wanted to play. He replied, " I guess if someone dies from a heart attack while playing this game the're relatives could sue id".

When I first got Doom3, I thought that it was completely awesome. The graphics and sound were awesome, and the atmosphere was convincing. You really do get nervous playing this game. While playing the early levels, I thought the game was great.

Now I am almost done (**I KNOW I'M SUPPOSED TO HAVE FINISHED**) the game, my opinion of the game has changed significantly. The problem with this game is that you do the same thing over and over again. You enter a room, a couple imps other monsters teleport infront and behind you and you shoot them in the head with a shotgun. After the first couple of levels you start getting tired of the gameplay and sick of the imps (the most common enemy in the whole game). Usually I have no problem fighting the same enemy over and over again if they are fun to fight, but the imps are really boring and the AI is terrible. In Far Cry and Halflife, the mercenaries and Marines you fight are smart and work together, which makes fighting them fun because its hard to predict what they will do. In Doom3, the imps just teleport in you room, run toward you and die. They cant even react to sound, try throwing a grenade (AND MISS!!) in their direction when they cant see you and you'll see what I mean. I easily got bored of this.

I will end up finishing this game, but only because I paid alot of money for this game, not because I like it. Also, multiplayer is not much fun in this game, so no replay value until mods come out.

What resolution did you have the game set to run at with what quality settings? I was thinking about plugging it into my 50" Samsung DLP's DVI input and the audio into my Marantz receiver that outputs to Joseph Audio speakers... I'm sure the sound would be no problem, but I just have this fear for some reason that the picture won't look as good as I've dreamed.

Normally I don't rate games until I finish them at least three times but for now I'd give Doom III 7 or 8 out of 10.

I loved the environments, it's too bad it was so dark the time, it was a bit overdone, as was the "IMP teleporting in behind me" thing.
I ran around with the godmode cheat afetr I made it, just to check some stuff out, those monsters look so awesome when you flashlight them, the default light setting doesn't do them justice.
