I must admit this game was pretty intense at first. With surround sound you can hear exactly where aliens are teleporting or if a zombie is coming from behind. The random droppings of body parts, steel plates, and bodies in general added onto the fun factor. Towards the middle of the game, everything seems very repetitive. The game was still "scary" but it was more of a predictable kind of suspense. When I step into a room, I know I'm going to get ambushed and after being ambushed down to 10 health, there's always health packs and stations. I thought id put too many health packs and stations everywhere. It made the game too easy.
The graphics were very impressive. The lighting from a plasma gun onto the wall and the huge blood veins running through the complex were eye openers for me. The level with the Hell's Guardian boss was pretty neat. The trip on the montrail with the view of the outside was breathtaking. I'm sure everyone else would agree that doom had pretty impressive graphics at this time.
overall, there isn't any interactivity. I can shoot chairs and screens but i can't move cardboard boxes. As for doom being dark, it's supposed to be dark. As for the flashlight w/o gun (i played the entire game w/o duct tape mod) it was managable but stupid. The weapons didn't have umph that ohter games had. the plasma gun sounds like a silenced machine gun. the bfg looks like a fat machine gun. and the machine gun looks like it's from halo. The bodies of my enemies disappear so I can't appreciate the work that id did on those models.
this seems like one of those love it or hate it games and i'm leaning towards the eeehhh side.
