What would make you choose the Thunderbolt over the Bionic if both were actually out and similarly priced?

Moto's history of locking down their devices' boot loaders, stunting ROM development. The Thunderbolt will have CM within a month, plus a plethora of other builds. Lots of options. The Bionic, while having better specs, won't see near the same level.

Course, there were some tweets from Moto about a 'Dev-friendly' boot loader, so who knows. I'd love the dual core Tegra nd qHD screen. Wish they'd bump the RAM up to a full GB though.

The Thunderbolt is definitely a disappointment to me. It's a slightly better Evo. This would have been fine if the device came out in August or something last year, but not now when we're getting dual core phones for the same price that match or eclipse it in every category of performance.

Not much. It was 90% about the time difference to me. I do like the TB a bit better aesthetically and HTC is a little more open than Moto (right? I don't know that much about this), but that's not really that important to me.

This is pretty much how I am. I currently don't have a smartphone at all... so it came down to the Thunderbolt now, or the bionic/iphone5 later. Coming from not having a smartphone at all I am sure I will be more than happy with the Thunderbolt for the next 2 years , even without dual core. However, I already intend to wait a month or so from the release for the price to come down a bit... and if they keep pushing back the release then the iphone5/bionic will be coming out and it would only make sense (it seems) for me to go with one of those. I don't think I'll be rooting my Android so I don't know that it will be a big deal to me how locked down the boot loader is. I'm just not that hardcore into tweaking out every little detail of the phone.

If it is like past releases, it will have root on release day and custom ROMs in a week.

My friend is considering this for her first smart phone.

If they continue to delay the Thunderbolt, I'm to hold off for the Bionic and cross my fingers that it'll be as easy as the Xoom. The Xoom had its boot loader unlocked, rooted, and Clockwork Recovery loaded on it in less than a day. :)

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I prefer as close to base Android as possible and if the Bionic will allow that, then I will wait a little longer.

We're hearing from... well, let's call them "people familiar with the matter" that HTC's Thunderbolt -- a phone that's supposed to be Verizon's first with LTE -- is experiencing positively miserable battery life that's making it difficult for testers to avoid carrying a second phone around as a backup. How bad? Two to three hours from full to empty in some cases. Of course, we wouldn't be surprised if battery life was really bad with the LTE radio left on -- the EVO 4G wasn't much different at launch with WiMAX lit up -- but the word on the street is that the power situation is largely responsible for the delays we've been seeing. In fact, our source tells us the phone is currently working on its sixth retail delay at the moment. More on this situation as we get it.

Update: We've just heard from another trusted tipster that there's definitely a new firmware in the works to address battery life and signal issues (which -- you guessed it -- are interrelated). Thanks, HTC Kid!

Ouch. Shouldn't be draining that fast, something's broken.

Well some people make assumptions before something has come out. Never wise to do that. Just like people assumed dual core was going to drain a battery crazy.

Exactly, people who assumed that didnt know what they're talking about. Especially since the entire history of multi-core processing hasn't increased our power draw needs.

Processing power has become more powerful and efficient, its the battery tech that needs catching up.

"Something" = LTE

This has been the testing rumor from day 1. Maybe HTC will come up with a band-aid but at the end of the day, battery is still going to suck.
