I don't know whether its my phone (Motorola E815) or the service (in the NYC area) but I've been having a lot of problems recently.

For instance, this morning, my phone is right next to me charging and at 100% reception yet I get a beep for a VM. I look and there's no indication that anyone called. I check out the VM and ask my friend that called what happened and he tells me the call went straight to VM.

A few days earlier, I get a call during a movie so I shut off the ringer. I look to check if there is a VM after the movie but there is no indication of one. Then about 6 hours later, I get a beep telling me I have a VM and the VM was from person who called during the movie.

This happens an awful lot.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Dial *228 and press 2 at the prompt to update your phone. It may or may not help get better reception and help that problem.

I recently had this problem quite a bit. Turns out that since I am now in Extended Service (I just moved) my outdated phone was constantly switching to Roam and missing calls. Just bought a Razr and have yet to have a problem.

Have you tried updating your phone (*228) to the nearest/best tower?

Yeah, I've had this issue before too. And my Razr doesn't seem to charge properly when plugged in, it sometimes gets a charge, sometimes doesn't. Another reason I have the SunRocket line. Use the SR at home, office phone at work, and pray that no one important calls when I'm out.

I have an e815, and have never experienced that issue, that I know of. Several of my coworkers have experienced it, though. They all have different phones.

I'm in Illinois with a VZW E815 and I get the same problem with missed calls as you described.

the way i understand it, that is not a phone or reception problem, it's a network problem. the network is overloaded and so instead of the call getting to your phone it is sent directly to VM.

basically the problem is, too many people in your area have Verizon.

I have Verizon Wireless too and lately, I've noticed that my reception has been TERRIBLE. I'm actually noticing it now because I keep getting cut off, whereas before, I almost never got cut off. I get 1 or 2 bars at home and before, I used to get 5 bars consistently. I actually have the problem where people call me and my phone never rings but on their end, they get a ring tone before going to my VM. I often get VM's hours later and when my phone is off, I never get missed call notifications. I stuck with Verizon because they had the best reception but now, it's hard to justify why I should continue my service with them. My contract is up so I'll be shopping for a service plan once I know where I'll be in the next year or two.

you are in metro area, so no need to stick with verizon. unless, if you do travel alot to rural area for their coverage.

The only issues that bug me with the E815 are that it will lockup once a month or so saying that there is "No Service" the screen goes black and it takes about 10 seconds before it functions properly again. This normally happens when I'm checking or typing a text message. Also, even after I check my voice mail it will still beep telling me that I need to. It's wanting me to read the actual message before it clears it out. Other than that the E815 is a tank!

How do you do this trick in other cell provider such as Cingular? I never heard about this before.

From what I've been told, phones on other networks don't need to be updated like VZW phones do.
