For those of you with Gorilla Glass/other variants

iPhone users included even though Apple doesn't disclose if they use gorilla glass or not. It seems to be a variant. Basically I'm asking for those who have glass screens that are supposedly "unscratchable." Who has a scratch on their screen?

If you have a chip from dropping your phone, mention it because I probably want to separate shatters/drops from scratches. The iPhone has shattering issues, but that's a little different from scratchability.

Anyway, I went 2 weeks with my iPod Touch with no touchscreen and today I said f-that and ripped off the screen protector from my Milestone after seeing my iPod survive just fine.

As for Invisible shield/other variants, all that crap is a scam. I've had scratches on my Nokia N82 and iPod Touch which used the Invisible Shield. My Milestone used a BodyGuardz protector (similar type to Invisible Shield), and was scratched too. I think I've had better luck with the old stick type that doesn't use the spray screen protectors. For example my ex's iPod and my mom's 3GS uses those and their protectors look shiny while mine look raped....

The only thing that can scratch it stuff like most beach sands. Most sands are very hard, harder then any type of glass. Other stuff won't. Keys, pens, scrapping it on accident if you have it in your hand carelessly. I dropped my Droid on concrete, the shiny bezel is scratched and dinged to hell and back. But the glass is good to go. Flawless to this day after owning it for a year.

My Droid is scratched. Had it since June. The body is dinged up pretty bad from the wife plopping it onto a parking lot, but it had no scratches then. Got a pair of them sometime last month, and I have no idea what caused them, I baby the thing (outside of handing it to the wife :p ).

Dunno if the Storm 2 is Gorilla glass or not, but I've taken the pointy end of sharp knives, keys and all sorts of other crap to it with no impact or scratches.

I've got scratches on my iPhone 4. Very minor, but they are scratches.

Same. Original Droid, owned since launch.

The bezel shows signs of wear, thanks to dropping it a few times, and sometimes without even dropping it (the painted metal surrounding the glass itself has some paint chipped away, probably from things in my pocket with my phone or something).

The screen itself is almost entirely flawless, however I do have the smallest possible imperfection, of which is probably a chip in the glass. It's a small round little "ding", you can't see any depth in it, but it's about the size of a grain of sand or so. No scratches or other marks on the glass. I love this glass.

i have a original droid, the screen has a couple of very fine, hairline scratches, but you have to shine a desklamp on it to see.
It is well cared for, but i occasionally throw keys, metal pens, and change into the same pocket.
imo it's the most durable screen i've ever seen.
like others already mentioned, the bezel around the screen has taken more damage than the glass.

I've dropped my Droid so many times it's no funny :) There are a few small nicks in the paint on the case, but the glass is flawless. The Droid is the best built phone I've ever used. It takes my abuse very well.

My old iPhone 1 had been dropped, kicked, stabbed, burned, beheaded, boiled in acid and shot (ok, maybe not those last 5, but certainly a lot of the first 2), and the body and bezel were scratched and dinged all to hell. The glass though only had 1 little scratch on it, and a small chip was missing in the corner. All in all, not too bad.

I noticed when I put my SP (reallook) on my vibrant (gorilla glass) that there were very slight scratches on my screen. I had gone about 2 weeks before going with an SP and I never noticed the scratches before. I only noticed after polishing the screen in anticipation of putting the SP on, and IO could only see the scratches at a certain angle and with the light just right. Once I put the SP on I haven't been able to see the scratches, from any angle or in any lighting. They've effectively disappeared when I put the SP on.

You know you have to put the Invisishield on the phone, right? It won't protect just sitting in the envelope.

I've had the Evo since launch day. I think it has gorilla glass. It has a couple of very fine scratches, plus what looks to be a very small ding. None of this is even noticeable unless the screen is perfectly clean. Being a touch screen, it's always smudged. I had to feel around w/ my fingernail to find the ding just now.

Ive put it on my N82, iPod Touch 1G, Milestone, and all have scratches. I ripped it off finally.

I didn't know the Droid/Milestone had the oleophobic coating because it's WAY better than the iPod Touch which lacks that.

I gave up because my Milestone Bezel has so many dings in just 3 months. I had a case on it for the first 8 months, but meh.... I wanted to reduce bulk. The paint chipping is far more of a problem than the glass...

Were they scratched before you put them on? Cuz in order to scratch the phone, it would have to physically tear through the Invisishield, otherwise it would be defying the laws of physics and so far, I haven't figured that out yet.

I have the N8, which got dropped from 6 inches on a corner of a plastic computer keyboard, and there's a tiny scratch on the glass, which is visible if you look closely. No other scratches, but I would not recommend keeping the phone in the same pocket as your keys.

Galaxy S with Gorilla Glass. Ive left it on my lap and stood up multiple times getting out of my car, making it bounce off the concrete and not one scratch on the glass. It even fell directly face down once and nothing.

Too bad the entire phone isnt made of it.. my sides are pretty dinged up.

No scratch here, thought I have a SPG screen protector with a few nicks and scratches all over. I also have a silicone case so my phone looks mint.

My Droid's bezel is a bit scraped up, but the screen is perfect, no scratches, no dings.

Oh shit, I forgot to post here after I was unbanned. Better get in quick while I still can.

My Droid has had loads of abuse but the screen still looks awesome. From now on I will not buy a touch screen device unless it has gorilla glass or something equivalent.

I should clarify. The phone wasn't scratched. The invisible shield was scratched. I thought those things are scratchproof. I realize they're like bulletproof or something and to tear through them is insane, but if they're not scractchproof, then what's the point? I get small scratches/lines all across. It's like my keys made them or something. In the end my screen looks a LOT worse because the invisibleshield degrades my screen quality so much.

I'm appreciating the oleophobic coating and gorilla glass of my Milestone a lot more now

I think every phone out there has gorilla glass.. ok at least the mainstream/flagship Android phones, iPhone. I'm betting WP7 phones have it too. Maybe the ones without could be the old resistive screen crapphones. But then those have a special resistive layer on it thats less prone to scratches anyway.

And you would be incorrect.
The stuff is expensive, and adds to the cost of the phone. But it works much better than most anything else. Since it works so well its also a major selling point.
If the phone has it they will make sure you know about it. It will be somewhere on the box or up front in the manual.

I've dropped my epic multiple times already (clumsy) with no damage what so ever. I've even dropped it screen first on a rock and the screen still has no marks.

My iPhone 4 screen got scratched when I used my t-shirt to clean it off. Pathetic.
