For those of you with Canon S1 IS, SD300, SD200 cameras

How do you like them/what do you use them for?

I am trying to pick one out for christmas. I like the zoom on the S1 iS but I like the size of the SD300 and SD200.

Sooo...one of 3 things is going on here:

1) Noone has any of these cameras

2) This is in the wrong forum

3) This thread lacks pics of scantly clad women and is thus doomed to fail

I have the S1 IS; got it about a month and a half ago now. I mostly use it for pics of parties/gatherings with friends, stuff like that. The zoom is very nice, yes. The only thing you have to watch out for is that the low-light focusing isn't the greatest, but I get around that by setting a Custom mode with a preset focus (search the dpreview forums for the hyperfocal length "trick" on the S1 IS). You can adjust just about every setting you could think of on the camera...but most of the time, I just use Auto or my Custom mode.

The video recording is also very impressive...640x480 @ 30fps, and it looks great. It does take up a lot of space though; almost 2mb/second. I have a 5GB microdrive in my camera though, so it's not an issue for me. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me! 🙂

I have the Canon S400 Elph. The quality is very, very good... But what I like best is the size. I take it most everywhere I go.

Well see I like the S1 IS for the great zoom, IS, and the CF/micro drives.

I like the SD200/300 for the small size, rechargeable battery, 7-pt AF, and the amazing speed of the DIGIC II chip.

This will be my first camera ever and I guess for the most part I will just be doing point and shoot at parties and what not. If I had the money I'd get both. 😕

I really like my S1, but its un-portability (did I just make up that word?) is the main drawback for me.

Based on this:

... you might be better-served with a smaller, simpler model that you don't mind carrying in your pocket.

However, PM me if you want to see some of my sample S1 shots.

pretty much my same experience with AF on night shots. I will have to look into that custom mode some time 😉

My sister just got the SD300, she previously owned a s200. After playing w/ it this past weekend, I really like how quick the unit turns on, and the time between shots. It's a lot thinner than the S series. I'm wondering how does this compare to the sony T1? or casio exilim z50?

Agreed. If you are going to use as a PAS and at parties and whatnot...the S1 is overkill.

I want the S1, except with a 4-5MP sensor, for those occasional prints I'd like to make gigantic. Maybe I'll just get it anyway and then have an excuse to upgrade in two year's time

just got the sd300

use to have a s230 and a sd100

great little camera, good for quick shots and just having it around

i just got the SD200 ( can't seem to find the S300 anywhere). It rocks. It beats my Minolta X50, Sony T1 and Casio Z50 in almost everything, except you can't zoom in video mode. Video mode is insanely nice, almost as good as a digital camcorder at VGA. Its also very fast startup too, almost as fast as the X50. In between shot time really depends on if you use flash or not. As you can use burst mode on most cameras nowadays. Image quality is the best of the the compact cameras right now and has the least amount of noise. I'm thinking the Panasonic FX7 is the only thing that can come close with its image stabalized lenses in terms of advantages vs other compact cameras. I'm looking for one right now to complete my collection.

Well how do they compare to a Canon G3 image wise? I've used my parents' G3 for several parties and it was decent.
