Im glad if you did rag on me, because that meant that at lease that you read my thread. An update for everyone, the offier died this morning so there.. I hope all you people complaining about the post realize there is more to life then finding good deals on computer hardware. There are real situations that need attention outside the latest buy.com sale. Anyway Im sorry if some of you got depressed but I thought you might like to bring some confort to this guys family by helping to look out for this vehicle.
Merry Christmas

okay, so may I ask what makes this police officer so special than other regular people who die everyday for whatever reason, hunger for example. That click for food to help hungry people thread made more sense than this.

That's right!! If there was a reward that would make it a Hot Deal. Other than that it's an Off Topic subject. "Ferengi's"<----- How stupid!!

<< You can bet if there was a cash reward these Ferengi's would be interested. >>

PochiePooh has a good point. People die! whether it be under the hood of a Mac Truck or the grip of age everyones soon to meet their maker. The fact that this cop died dramaticaly puts him on a pedestal over all other deaths today. It is even more ironic because of all the jobs in the world a cop should almost be expecting the bullet. Its a higher risk job than most out there. So if the fact that he was shot is not so incredible then what isn't?

and HiveTyrant why must you continue to place this in the wrong place? I could have lost my mother today to cancer but you're saying that the only important death is that of some no-name cop who works knowing that someone he pulls over might be carrying a shotgun! I mean wtf! There are thosands of unsolved mysteries out there that are happening and should be looked in to. This is called "Anandtech Computer Hardware Discussion Forums" because it is not "Anandtech's Most Wanted Discussion Forum" !!! This is sad but it does not warrent the posting of useless threads that are extremely biased.

i'm with uncouth on this one
i do feel bad for the officer's family because i know most of the cops in the tarrant county including the said officer but this isn't really the right place to be posting this.
ton's of people die via violent means everyday but they don't get posted in this forum.

<< And how appropriate. >>

Yes, I believe it is appropriate, considering your posting an Off Topic subject in a Hot Deals Forum and calling people Ferengi's who don't agree with the subject of this thread,in this forum. Very appropriate indeed.

This thread should be locked just as the original post should be.

<< Most of those here are cool but there are those who seem to lay in wait for someone to post something that doesn't meet their criteria of a Hot Deal and when that happens they pounce like a rat on a moldy piece of cheese. >>

Red, you really think so? I feel i've noticed a CONSIDERABLE decline in character here since two years ago.

I've been surfing this board for awhile now and picked up a few good deals (thanks guys).
But this is my first post. I agree this thread would be better suited under a "general discussion " thread elsewhere on this board and may not be appropriate under "hot deals", but give the guy a break.
His heart was in the right place. Asking for help shows he has a little more humanity than some of the people here. And if by chance if one of the readers here knew some information that would help do you think He should have the attitude "sorry it doesn't belong here, post under a different category and if I see it I'll respond". Sometimes you feel strongly enough about something to bend the rules. Obviously he felt that way.
If that's a problem, them the moderators will deal with it, it's not your job. You all knew that the thread wasn't about a hot deal, If you didn't like it you didn't have to read it.
Now that I've said what was on my mind, I'd like to close by saying have a merry Christmas, and may you and your loved ones be safe, happy and enjoy life to the fullest.

Buddhist,

People tend to behave like the people who set the examples, I think that holds true here. 'Nuff said.

the Ferengis and the Borg were the best StarTrek characters :p

this thread and the original one clearly don't belong in Hot Deals! The fact that HiveTyrant (and many others) seems unable to comprehend this is what I see wrong here...

There is a PLACE and TIME for EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, this PLACE isn't the right one for "Ferengis'".

The timing was nice though :)

There are hundreds of "real situations" that go on every single day, but there is a time and place for everything and to post them on some relatively obscure website accomplishes nothing except maybe help you cope and give you the impression you are actually doing something. Can you imagine if we all decided to post similar good intentioned but misguided pleas for help for each tragedy that goes on in this world? Like I said, you want to really make a difference in this world instead of a token gesture like posting on a board or clicking for the homeless, get off your computer and get out there in the real world and start helping real people out. Since you are such a humanitarian HiveTyrant, there are plenty of other homeless, battered women, abused children, poor and sick, etc. out there that need your help or are cops who got shot all you care about?

I would just like to say one thing to PoochiePooh.

<< okay, so may I ask what makes this police officer so special than other regular people who die everyday for whatever reason, hunger for example. That click for food to help hungry people thread made more sense than this. >>

The reason it's a little more dramatic when a Police Officer dies is that they put their life on the line every day to protect and serve everybody including you! I know it's the profession they choose but they do a job no one else is willing to do. (How many poeple get shot writing codes for software or helping you at the home depot?) They will help you and protect you without batting an eye, they don't even know you and will put their life on the line for you! So in my opinion it's very sad when an officer dies, that could have been the one officer that could have saved you or somone in you family's life!!!!
To all the rest of you that don't care for the Police, without them you probably wouldn't be here typing away be cause some scumbag just broke into your house and stole your computer or cut your throat because there would be no one to stop him!!! - Merry Christmas and God Bless that Officers Family and all that care!!!

some of them are actually out there to serve and protect, but at the same time there are those SELF-SERVING ones. a lot of them think they are hot sh!t because they have a badge and a pistol. as far as them doing a job no one else wants to do, that's far from the truth. a lot of them do it because they want the apparent authority that comes with it.

It's nice to see that the Hot Deals Ferengi seem to care about something more than Hot Deals.

Come on guys. This is a single thread that didn't need all the crapping on. By you guys constantly posting how "this thread sucks", or "this thread is off topic," only bumped the thread up to the top.

Contribute something worthwhile for a change. Reading a thread that's not about a Hot Deal isn't going to kill you. HiveTyrant may not particularly care for Hot Deals, but he cares a lot about human lives.

If you say that it's just one life -- then think about this: What if that one life that was dying was your wife, your husband, your mom, your dad, or your sibling? Then it would be pretty important, wouldn't it?

While some cops aren't the best people, there are plenty of cops out there that have their hearts and minds set out to serve and protect. I have two friends who are in the LAPD, and I can you that they do their job w/pride.

So during this festive time of the year, why don't you all remind yourselves that there are WAY more important things in life than finding the hottest deal? Helping the Dallas PD catch these murderers is probably the hottest deal that the fallen officer's family could ever hope for.
