This is just like when some democrats tried to force computer makers to list the FSB as the processor speed, instead of the multiplied speed.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and the HD makers always list the size as "Unformatted". Same with floppy makers a few years ago...

Repost, but in the other post it seemed that most agreed with the lawsuit.. including myself.

They can be honest. It's not just unformatted, it's because of the difference in reading bits and bytes.

It will win, just like the laws that make CRT monitor and TV makers tell you the "visible" size.

Well since my work computer can hardly run the internet, I won't bother clicking that link to open up a new browser. How much are they sueing for?

I know that I've read on at least a few hard drive boxes that 1mb = 1000k or 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes.

Apparently they've stopped doing that?

Well, it at least makes sense to do that, but why should you need a LAWSUIT to make you do that. Dumb mfg's.

That missing 10 gigabytes, they claim, could store an extra 2,000 digitized songs or 20,000 pictures.

Hmmm, MP3s and pr0n. Anyone want to start a pool to see how long after a settlement the RIAA files a lawsuit against these guys???

They aren't suing the makers. The HD makers alwasy use the same meaning of "GB". They're suing OEMs, who sell you a PC with 1GB of ram, which holds more than a 1GB hard drive would.
