Our meter is in the back of the house... we live in a townhome, fenced. Every so often the local folks at Washington Gas come by to make sure we're not lying on our gas readings.

Now, usually the guy will just hop the fence... or ask us. heh. Yes, he's probably not suppose to, but eh...

anyway, today, my mom wasn't home... and supposedly, he told my neighbor to tell us to have the gas meter moved out front, and that the gas company would do it free of charge.

Um... I have no idea how complicated that would be, but I would guess it's not a easy task.... our neighbor claims she did it 7 months ago, but... wouldn't we notice that? I mean, I would think there would be quite a bit of pipe re-routing... if it was even possible.

I feel like this is a stupid question.. and it probably is.. but is my neighbor on crack?

well ours in on the side of our house to answer your topic question.

As far as moving it, its pretty much my understanding that if they want to move it, they will move it. No questions asked.

Ours is on the side and they check it monthly. It would be some work involved, but if they want to pay I guess that's ok as long as it won't look bad.

I did have to spend an hour after my guy did his stuff repairing the lawn. They ripped it up and basically threw the sod "kinda" where it should have gone. If I'd have let it sit there the lawn would have been permanently screwed. make sure that they fix any issues like that. I just thought I"d rather do it myself instead.

Most townhouses I have seen have them located in the back yard. When we owned a townhouse that is where ours was located.

why would your neighbor lie?

utilities would do something like this. the labor of installing new meters is offset quickly enough by personnel savings.

why would our neighbor lie... well, she has this tendency to do that. and it just struck me as odd that the gas company would go to the labor of moving the meter, it just seemd like it be a lot more trouble than it was worth.

well you can call your gas company and confirm,

our electric company installed a new meter (basement location) with one that could be read from the street free of charge.
