What happens if you don't like the game, or you grow tired of it?

There's no way to trade, right?

Nope, you can try ebaying it, but with the advent of all this fun DRM non-sense. its becoming harder for us Gamers to re-sell our games. CD-keys are not a problem, but athenticating back to an online server kind of killed that.

basically, you get to keep the bundle of joy

I stop playing games I've grown tired of. I don't buy games I don't like.

What's the confusion here again?

Steam has a gift option, but I think that is only when you first purchase the game. I may be wrong about that though.

No confusion, just wondering if you could trade/sell downloaded games.

In the game exchange thread, I was able to trade Bioshock and Fear for Crysis. Finished Crysis and traded that for COD4. I'm thinking now that I want Crysis again

This has worked out for me so far.

I don't resell games, so I have no issue when I'm done with games I get via Steam.

I assume you are talking about Steam, Impulse (formerly known as StarDock Central) and general digital distribution.

IIRC Games on Impulse have a refund policy if you are not satisfied with the game which makes sense as anyone who would try to rip them off (eg, buy DD, burn onto a disk -which Impulse lets you do, also Steam I think- then ask for refund) would just pirate the game anyway. Once refunded the game is removed from your account (not sure if it's "deactivated" if you didn't uninstall it). Most stores that sell box copies do not accept a return or refund if you open the package.

But second hand PC game industry is pretty much dead due to DRM that many game makers these days use to kill off this market and in theory make more money (I have my doubts of long term impact). A few video game stores will still accept PC game trade ins, but it must be without DRM that limits the number of installs, systems or online activations.

I've been playing PC games for roughly 20 years, and I don't think I've ever resold a game. So it's not something I really think about.

If you're a kid short on cash you think about it a lot.

i've sold a few pc games, but not until this past year or so. i've been gaming on pc for about 15 years.

i used to keep most of my console games until the last few years as well. the latest console i have is a PS1 and i never play it any more. I've sold almost all of my games. The only ones I haven't sold aren't in very good condition and no one wants them.

Same here.. and publishers wonder why the PC market isn't generating as much profits now..

Oh yeah, it's because of piracy.. right..

I very rarely resell games. If the game stinks, I rant and complain about it on various sites so fewer people will buy the title, but I don't resell them. I have returned software that failed to function as advertised though they only gave me store credit.

Until games on Steam cost less than their retails counterparts, you won't see me paying full price for what is essentially a rental. I do realize that Steam prices have a lot to do with pressure from retailers, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't change. At least most retail games can still be sold, and that's a plus if only for the fact that we can still still do it (in most cases).

It's great that most of you don't sell your games, neither do I for the most part. But it's good to know that I still have that option. If you're ok with more and more rights being taken away from consumers, then that's fine, but i'm not cool with that. If we stand back and do nothing then our rights will slowly disappear. Publishers don't care about consumer rights, they care about maximizing profits. Today it's getting rid of the used market, tomorrow it will be non-skipable ads for pepsi, the next day will be $80 games that need finger print authorization and come with 1 install. The last one's a little extreme I know.. :) but the point remains.
