For those of us with fast internet... (10mbps or more)

I just got my fancy DSL line upgraded... 10mbps/800kbps for $55/mo CAD (So about $57 USD ;))

There are a couple bandwidth tests that have shown me that my line is not the problem: Bandwidth tests dole me out at about 10300/815...but even big sites like Fileplanet can't bring me past 400kb/s....

But even many bandwidth tests show me with lame speeds...as if they can't keep up.

What's the point of this great, fast internet if you can't utilize it?

I find that some of the larger sites can but most can't. The faster speed works great for *cough*usenet*cough*.

When you have several computers with several people online at once, thats where the speed is nice.

Pretty much, yeah... but when I find a source that can cap me, it's nice to have the speed. As far as I know, it's the only (or slowest) speed my provider offers, so it's not like I could save money by paying less for a thinner pipe.

I pay for 4MBPS down, and I get what I pay for, and sometimes more. From MS and torrents, I usually max out.

We only can get 6Mb max from BellSouth DSL for $43. No cable broadband available here.

The problem isn't your downspeed, its the upspeed of the servers you're accessing...

At home my bandwidth tests usually are always poor relative to what I should be getting, but when I access fast servers or healthy torrents I can easily achieve my down and upstream caps.
