For the SETI gurus - help me understand.

Ok, the deal is that I've got the client installed and running on my machine at home (not the screensaver, but the other one). What I'd like to know is where I can go to see real-time (if possible) how many WU's I've completed, uploaded, etc. (I'd be especially interested to be able to see this stuff when I'm at work).

I'm a bit concerned, because last night my thing was reading something to the effect of 5 ready to send, 4 left to process (in whatever fashion it states that - not word for word). This morning after turning it on again (I had to shut down at 1:00 am - I really tried to sleep w/ it on but it was too loud) it said something like 1 ready to send...but my number on SETI hadn't been updated with the 5 that I had completed.

So my questions are:
1.) If you shut down, will it automatically transmit all of the finished WUs the next time you start up? Is it better to have it transmit after each one is done? (I'm on a cable modem - so it's connected).
2.) Where can I go to see how many I've completed online.
3.) How up-to-date is the online info.
4.) How do I see how many I've completed at home - which button should I click in the client? Can I use the .csv thingy if I don't have excel installed (don't have it at home).

That's it for now.

Thanks!

Thanks. They were there!!!!

Here's another question. My average speed is so slow because my old computer (with the old WUs) is really bringing it down. I take it there is no way to change that?

Perhaps a new e-mail address and join that one to the team. I just want to get a better idea of my machines performance.

TIA.

Individual stats are updated in real-time. Team stats are updated very frequently, but not quite real-time. As long as you have "Auto-Transmit" selected in SETI Driver, it'll upload all the completed work units and download new ones to analyze. Make sure you press "Save Config" after checking Auto-Transmit.

Nevermind - 2 other people replied in the same minute that I did and covered what I was going to say. Geez you guys are fast!

If you want individual stats about each work unit, you can have SETI Driver transfer work units through a proxy like Orange Kid's. You'll get a page that look like this.

If you have different IP's for the two different machines then you can use Orange Kid's queue:

orangekid.teamanandtech.com
5001

And then when you go to your page you can click on No. Clients (which should be equal to the number of ip's you have crunching). This will split your totals up by ip! Here's mine for example:

http://orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001/userinfo.htm?user=3342877

The only problem is if you have a router or other form of ICS running with more than 1 computer crunching per ip. It then averages everything between them. With mine I have 2 computers at each ip. At this one it is the computer in my sig (3:30 avg) and a Pentium 200MMX (38hr first WU). THAT kills the average😀

spartacuskzm,

<< Here's another question. My average speed is so slow because my old computer (with the old WUs) is really bringing it down. I take it there is no way to change that? >>

You can't really change your average, unless you upgrade 😉.

<< Perhaps a new e-mail address and join that one to the team. I just want to get a better idea of my machines performance. >>

I would use Orange Kid's proxy before creating another account to track stats.

Logix,

<< Team stats are updated very frequently, but not quite real-time. >>

If you check TeAm stats through http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cgi?cmd=team_lookup&name=Team+AnandTech they are live 😉.

Oh yeah - your average speed will slowly decrease with each completed work unit on the new system. In the last week or so, my average time has gone from 6:15 or so to 5:26 since I've been running my dual processor setup. It'll take awhile, but you'll be able to notice it lowering. There's really no way to delete your old averages from the system - just let 'em go and have fun watching yourself improve. Sort of like a miracle diet I guess. 😀

EDIT: I also use Orange Kid's proxy to check the individual stats of each work unit. That's the best way to tell how my computer is actually performing. PM me if you want more info.

You could look at your history though 😉. For example here's mine.

I think you're using SETIDriver ? Then check "Auto Transmit" and it'll transmit the WU once it's finished.
If you want you stats then tell your setidriver to use a proxy : check "proxy server" and fill the field with host : www.orangekid.teamanandtech.com and port : 5001

The team SETIQueue stats are at www.orangekid.teamanandtech.com:8080

your up to date SETI@Home stats can be found at
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cgi?email=myemail@myprovider&cmd=user_stats_new
Just put your own SETI email instead of the hilighted one... 😉

Hope this helps ? 🙂

EDIT: WAHOOOO ! I'm so slow typing... 😉

Of course you must do what you must do, and your real life will suffer if you are sleep deprived. By all means don't let that happen, you can't crunch seti if you are sick or unemployed or anything else that might result from lack of sleep.

Here is what I do:

I have 3 overclocked systems running in my bedroom. This is loud because I have lots of extra fans. I would not be able to sleep with these things running except for

the 24/7 seti fanatic's secret weapon.... Ear Plugs!!!

I have gotten used to wearing ear plugs while I sleep. Yes it is a little uncomfortable, but it's worth it to kick out all the extra WU's that would be lost if I turned my machines off at night.

Thank you all - I think I can find what I needed. See if you agree.

Here is my new computer - through Orangekid:

http://orangekid.teamanandtech.com:5001/userinfo.htm?user=2051713

Here is my overall SETI info

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cgi?email=banker74@yahoo.com&cmd=user_stats_new

If I'm reading it correctly, then the new comptuer seems quite a bit better.

As for the earplug recommendations - I looked for them last night but they're MIA. I'll pick some up soon. On the bright side, I'll be in Vegas from Sat - Monday, so it'll be all SETI for my computer.

Thanks!

Like I've said before - quantity, not quality! 😉
