Finally, I?m going to make good use out of my computer skills. For the next two weeks, I?ll be teaching computers at a local community center to the poor. Four hours a day, ten days, about 15 people and teaching computer basics, Windows, Word, Excel and Internet.. This is just a small contribution into making life in a somewhat poor country like Brazil a bit better. I hope that they can use this knowledge when they apply for a job

It will be my first time doing something like this, and I hope all goes well. Myself, I?ve learned about computer all alone ? no courses or people telling me what to do ? so this will be different. Has anyone done something similar? Any thoughts/ideas/skills on how to make learning and teaching about computers an easier task?

:)

Admirable. Anyone else see the irony in teaching computers to the poor?

Seriously though, good luck and I hope it goes well. My advice would be to go slowly and give them time to play around by themselves at times so they become familiar with the environment. Also if you're going to show them the web, show em a search engine and have a few test searches ready so you can guide them through finding some info, on say the Brazilian soccer team :D

Just to say that all went well (I discovered that I'm a very good teacher:)), my class is great and very smart. They got through the basics of computing in no time.

Just because they are poor doesn't mean that they don't have access to computers, btw.
