I'm from Wisconsin, and I've never seen a tornado, and there hasn't been one near my hometown since I've been alive, I believe. Since we're so far north, they're not very common. I don't think I'd ever live in the real tornado alley because they seem to be much more common, but the chances of getting hit with one are still pretty slim, I bet.

And FWIW....

I've lived in the midwest for most of my life (Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska). I've had a few close calls but so far been very lucky in regards to tornados.

Why do you live in Tornado Alley?

suberb of minneapolis here

because i like to live dangerously

with hurricanes you ahve a few weeks warning

earthquakes- you only need to be out side in an open place or for minor ones near a door way

but with tornados, you get 5 seconds to save your own life... what a rush!

The last tornado to actually hit Minnesota was in either 1909 or 1919. Ever since then we seem to avoid the destruction somehow.

I'm calling you out BIG TIME on that one. You obviously just completely pulled this out of your butt. Have you lived under a box or never watch the news?

Here's the one I was talking about in my hometown (actually 40 years ago, not 30). The western path of the tornado in the map goes directly over our house.

There was also a huge one in Saint Peter around 1998 that leveled a small town near it (can't remember the name).

Here's a list of all tornadoes in Minnesota up through 1995.

And I understand things are so much better is Boston, what with all the drunken micks beating their wives constantly. But as I don?t intend to have a dysfunctional home life, I see no benefit for my family.

wrong, my dads house was taken by an F5 back in the 60's, it leveled the entire neighborhood and spared nothing

another U of I ATOTer here 😛

I am in Champaign as well, I haven't seen one here, but I have heard the tornado sirens a few times...

another Chambana dweller here.................God I can't wait to leave 🙁

Eh.... because I can't think of any other place in the nation that comes close to the positives of this area? Yes, we do have extreme weather swings... but since I don't really walk from place-to-place, that's OK with me... the buildings and vehicles are designed to handle that. It's relatively cool here in Ohio most of the year. That's a big positive... I like coolness. 40s-50s are awesome. And you can't beat the snow and ice. It's awesome. 😀 Even though there were millions of people in this area cursing mother nature, I was happy! 😉

Yeah, we have the occasional tornado... big deal. I'd take that over an earthquake or hurricane ANY day. We've had more than one tornado hit our farms... but it hasn't caused a significant amount of damage. Maybe a few thousand in the last hundred years or so. And we're aren't unique... it's the same way everywhere around here.

The only thing I don't like about the weather here is the rain... but I'm told that it's horribly worse just about everywhere else, so I don't complain too loudly about that.

i have lived in nebraska and i have seen tornadoes all over the place.

never got my home though... *knocks on wood*

winter storm warning for us tonight!

I know of no one who has lost anything to a tornado. Odd's are pretty slim. Ask how many people along the gulf coast know somebody who has lost everything to a hurricane.
