I just put together a new computer but I can't get it to do anything!
when I turn it on the power led lights come on but nothing happens.
i have a video card, HDD, memory, motherboard and proccesor.
It won't even boot to bios...

and answers or ideas on the problem?

and can u get to bios without and processor and just a motherboard?

I just took apart my pc and tryed booting barebones.
I noticed that when my amd Xp was in the motherboard the power suppply fan would not turn on
when I took it out the powersupply fan would turn on.

is a processor needed to get video out?

The specs of the system would be nice, but when you say you booted barebones, you took it out of the case and put in on a anti-static bag right? Also do you have your heatsink and fan plugged into the fan1 header on the motherboard? Have you read the motherboard manual?

You need to have a CPU, RAM, and video card installed to boot. You don't need to have any drives attached.

Ok, I have an 1600 xp, 512 of ddr 333 and a Kt333 motherboard
all that is connected currently is the video card, ram and processor
I have my mother board on the box that it came in.

The powersupply doesn't even turn on unless i take the processor out.
the processor also smells like burn plastic

Well if is smells like its burnt, then there is a good chance you found your problem right there. Now before you drop another one in there you might try and figure out how it would of burnt. Were you using thermal compound? Was the heatsink on the right way? Did you try powering it up without a heatsink just to see if it would work? (Seen it happen a few times here)

If you applied power to an AthlonXP without a heatsink it will be fried before you can reach the power button to turn it off.
