I attended that race yesterday at Laguna-Seca. Was an awesome race and the Mustangs did very well.

SCCA tends to get all the cars in the calss to run pretty even so I'm wondering if the '05 Mustang hasn't been as penalized by SCCA as the older modles in the GS class like the 911 Porsche BMW M3 & CTS-V.

The scenario above is being played out in the GT class after Caddies dominance with their CTS-V's last year. They were penalzied heavily.

FYI a 2003 Cobra qualified 4th and ran in the top five until it blew it's trans. The only '03 Cobra to finish ran 11th.

apparently so do corvettes. and a stock corvette went around top gear's test track in the same time as a 575M, though the (completely biased) guys on top gear made it sound as if the 'vette was just another car.

i wonder if they'll ever get a Z06?

iirc, a 3 link with panhard bar is the street mustang's setup

You can't poop on my parade . I never claimed it was stock. In fact, Road and Track did a review and the Multimatic Motorsports car is the same as the GT-R listed. My stock '05 GT has better acceleration numbers, of course the GT-R handles better. We share the same 3-link rear. You think the BMW M3's and Porsche 996's and 997's were stock too?

Whatever dude. All I know all the haters slam the 'stang for not being able to handle. Well, this is no longer the case. The technology may be old, but it is proven and cost effective.

At least GM didn't mess up the Corvette. Another case of old, but proven technology:
Pushrods in the LS1/LS2 engines, and leaf springs in the rear. The C6 'vette would have been my car of choice if I could have gotten a deal on one.

IRS was available in the past - It's known as the 2003/2004 Mustang Cobra...and they finished 12th in this particular Gran-Am race So the answer is no. Even Carol Shelby knows that the 3 link rear is good enough and is using in the '07 Shelby Cobra Mustang.

The chassis is much better in the '05 Stang though. I'm guessing that's where most of the difference is.

My '05 GT just came in! (Just got the call from the dealer). Going to go pick it up after I'm done with school for the day, in about 4 hours (I'm on a lunch break right now).
