My wife prefers to drink wine over any other alcoholic beverage. I thought it would be a nice gift to buy her a nice bottle of wine for christmas. After doing some searching, I ended up buying a $150 bottle of 1970 Portugese wine. Given the situation, would you like that as one of your gifts?

call me cheap but i would rather have the $150 go to something that lasts....like jewelry, and have a less costly bottle of wine.

Yikes!!!
$150 bottle of red???

You my friend, are quite foolish. You can get a nice mix-and-match case of wines for a similar price. Or pay for wine classes for the both of you to experience together. Like these: Wine 101 and Wine 102

its a good bottle of port, but price isn't everything. there are ports she'd enjoy more on that page that cost 1/3 less.

I'm she'll enjoy that if she likes wine, I just hope you got her something else in addition to that then just a bottle of wine.

An unlabled bottle of Port. I'm kinda suspicious about it. I have some very good Port @ home and like Hammer says, a third of the price.

http://www.fonseca.pt/index_.htm Some reading may be in order. But yes, it is very nice that you have thought of your wife's interests and likes in buying her this gift.

I thought buying and appericate wine is all about discovery something cheap and good, like going to a tag sale, and find a rare collectible item for a penny or something like that. Any joe shmoe can shell out 150$ and buy some expensive good wine, but it would take the fun out of it.
