how reliable are Jaeger movements? I'm thinking about getting the Van Cleef and Arpel, Mr Arpel dual time watch; but i'm wondering about the movement since its made by Jaeger.

any help, including links to watch forums would be appreciated.

My dad has a Jaeger-LeCoultre and it's pretty reliable. He's had it for 15 years or so and has the jeweler change the battery in it. I don't think it's ever had a problem with it.

why are they not the best? I'm trying to get a nice automatic watch, and its hard to decide what I want. My alternative from this watch is a rolex date-just.

It's an outstanding movement.

JL is one of the few top watch makers that makes their own movements and proofs them out - check out their "Master" series watches. They are tested well beyond the COSI standard for a "Chronometer."
