for the g80 owners....

I have decided to wait & not uppgrade just YET to the g80....and instead to take a look at r600 performance and whatever is best once that card is released. I am curious to know a few things about this g80 though....

1. Can the best HR-03 lower the temps at least 15c from the stock cooler? (I doubt anyone has attempted this...but can you give me an educated guess?) How well we can cool these future video cards will tell if I need to think about watercooling or no....

2. Can I adjust voltages of the card through software? Or is a physical vmod needed?

3. Where can I find some perfromance #'s of an overclocked gtx? Ive seen the gts oc'ed and its pretty impressive...If those #'s are close to what an oc'ed 8800gtx can do.....I may get the gts...

I dont know how hot the core of the r600 will be, im guessing hotter than the 8800gtx?

I know some of these questions cant be answered with 100% accuracy, but you g80 owners out there will have a better go at it than this proud 7800gt owner 🙂 Im just trying to do some research for future upgrades...thanks 🙂

Actually the R600 may have fewer transistors than G80 so could infact run cooler.

I think R600 will in fact be cooler because it's going to be 80nm. On the other hand, it's supposed to use more power than the G80.

Gee if a video card comes out 3 months or more later... It better be faster!
But it will be not be faster like 8800GTX compared to the x1950.
Just say you love ATI and you want to wait 3 months for her to put out, and be done with it. Just having fun with you. 😉

Either way, their will be a 8950GTX & 8950GTX2 dual core(speculation) shortly after R600, so then what are you going to do?

With Core 2 duo, fresh chipsets and a DX10 8800 GTS this is the best time in the last few years to pull the upgrade trigger. Shoot man shoot.

GTX has been hitting 850 range for some, one site with 'non-air' cooling hit like 892/2220. - http://www.nordichardware.com/Reviews/?page=4&skrivelse=493

Glad you know this. Anyways lets see vista with some new games promoting a new form of virtual unreality.

I'd have to disagree with that sentiment, I think it would be better to hold off until the G80 refresh/R600 especially if you have 7900/x19xx series. Sure G80 trounces them, but previous gen cards run almost all of the current crop of games with great IQ just fine as it is, and the new software, Vista/games won't be out for 3 months or more, just in time for R600/G80 refresh.
