For the first time on ebay I have a really bad feeling... Best way to approach this?

This morning I wake up to this message from the seller:

my paypal is manevsky@optonline.net
whu u sent money to manevski@mail.ru
manevski@mail.ru is my email but not paypal account ?

Odd, no? So I look at the bid history from last night, my little last second bidding war just happens to have been with someone who won two of this guy's previous auctions (and those are the only two he's ever won).

The 7 feedback doesn't bother me too terribly much since everyone has to start somewhere, but everything combined has me thinking something's off here. And of course in the grand tradition of ebay I really, really don't want to lose my 100% positive feedback to some moron claiming I never paid.

Next move? Just tell the guy I sent PayPal to his registered ebay account (which he obviously knows) and tell him to ship my damn CPU?

Oh and according to PayPal the payment I sent is still unclaimed... Yet this guy obviously knows I sent it. Should I just cancel the payment, tell him to change his registered PayPal account and re-send?

How did he know you sent money to the other acct?

I don't know for sure, but I think you can send money to people who don't already have a PayPal account. They get an e-mail telling them they have money waiting, & then they have to go register an account to claim it. I could be completely talking out of my ass though.

If he wants you to send the paymen tto an account that is NOT the one regsitered with his eBay account, have him send you an invoice through Paypal that you can then pay. That way you have the proof as to what you are paying him for.

That's what I do when someone has to pay with a credit card because my primary account isn't upgraded but my wife's account is.

Right, but that person could then still claim that money.

Maybe I was misunderstanding though. I though he knew it went to some other account that he didn't have access too. He can cancel the payment there and you can resubmit.

did you recall the payment you sent to the mail.ru account? If he registers that account can't he still get that money? I'm sure you've already done this by now.

that is how paypal became so popular... the receiving person didn't and doesn't have to be registered with paypal
