For the first time on ebay I have a really bad feeling... Best way to approach this?

I've been looking for a relatively cheap way to go 64-bit on my Dimension 8400 so last night I won this. Had a bit of a last second bidding war with another bidder, but the final price is decent IMO. I sent full payment immediately via PayPal to the account registered with ebay.

This morning I wake up to this message from the seller:

my paypal is manevsky@optonline.net
whu u sent money to manevski@mail.ru
manevski@mail.ru is my email but not paypal account ?

Odd, no? So I look at the bid history from last night, my little last second bidding war just happens to have been with someone who won two of this guy's previous auctions (and those are the only two he's ever won).

The 7 feedback doesn't bother me too terribly much since everyone has to start somewhere, but everything combined has me thinking something's off here. And of course in the grand tradition of ebay I really, really don't want to lose my 100% positive feedback to some moron claiming I never paid.

Next move? Just tell the guy I sent PayPal to his registered ebay account (which he obviously knows) and tell him to ship my damn CPU?

Oh and according to PayPal the payment I sent is still unclaimed... Yet this guy obviously knows I sent it. Should I just cancel the payment, tell him to change his registered PayPal account and re-send?

nah, people can have different emails associated with ebay/PP. kinda funky though, i would check up both emails on Paypal's system and see how long both have been registered, reputatoin, etc.

Send it to the registered email ONLY. If he tries to get you to switch then I would withdraw the payment and contact ebay ASAP

After looking through the sellers history, lokyter123 has bid on every one (Edit: 5 of last 6) of the seller's auctions. I would send a message to Safe Harbor. This guy is bidding up his own auctions and should be shut down.

Haha, nice catch. I didn't even think to check the ones that he didn't win.

All signs point to "This guy's a tool" then, time to cancel the payment & get the hell out of this deal.

I wouldn't be concerned about the email thing. I have many emails all linked to one paypal account. However, the bidding part would concern me. Withdraw payment and report him.

I thought it was a nice resolution. I was hoping ebay would be quick about it since I didn't want to have to string the idiot along for too long (I wasn't going to re-send payment after his message + noticing the shill bidding).

All's well that ends well I guess.

Good work, the .ru would have killed any deal with me. Why is it that everything from eastern Europe/Russia/Nigeria is a scam in some sort?

manevski@mail.ru

Aside from the info other posters have found, a .ru e-mail address is enough of a sign to avoid that guy like the plague.

Quality resolution; glad to see that it worked out without you losing 100% positive feedback and getting a jerk thrown off of eBay.

Seller is not a registered user.

Probably NARU'ed. Try telephoning someone at PayPal and see about getting your money back.

edit: the account that he was using to shill bid his auctions has been NARU'ed too. Call PayPal.

That's because of Viper.

Yup and the payment was never claimed so I didn't lose anything. Can't beat that.
