For the first time I can remember rolling blackouts hit Dallas / Fort Worth!

Every 15 mins TXU is turning everything off, including my computer :|, due to 100F being reached today.

Damn overbuilding!

I hear ya! I am in Dallas, and it's friggin hotter en hell here today, again tomorrow. Cooling off Wednesday.

I turned up my thermostat to 79, house is very comfy right now, nice and cool. Ceiling fans going too.

Man, I just moved out of Arlington, TX up to central PA last July. So far Pennsylvania doesn't have anything on Texas, this state blows. Especially the liquor laws (and I thought Texas had some old Blue Laws going on).

I am surprised it has already hit 100º down there. Any tornados as of yet?

It's cause you run Intel.

It's sucking up so much power, it's causing huge blackouts 😉

Brownouts are caused by not having enough supply to meet demnd. (Duhhh...)

I don't know about the utility down there, but if the public service commission has rate freezes in place, it may be the cause of the brownouts. the best example I can give is to comare energy to gas prices. If a gallong of gas costs the station owner $2.50/gallon, but he is only allowed to charge $1.50/gallon, he will lose $1 per gallon. However, unlike a gas station, the utility can't just close and stop selling gas. They are obligated to continue offering power. Eventually, the utility can not afford to purchase energy to meet demand, and rolling brown outs are a result.

Hope it cools off for you guys....send more of the heat to the Northeast.

This is just a fluke, it shouldn't be this hot, this early, we should average between 75 to 80 degrees right now. This is August weather, I am not ready for this. It will be hot again tomorrow, 78 by Wednesday, chance of rain. I hope it does rain, we need it, BAD.

Whoa... no way! So that explains why the power went out at work right after I left, and why a few of the lights on the way home were nonfunctional. Go figure. 😛

It was happening in my area of San Antonio as well. It was pretty annoying. I wonder what is going to happen in the summer when it really gets hot.

Hmm, I will be at the american airlines confrence center in 2 weeks for a weeks worth of training. Hopefully this is al done by then.

..I'll bet it's air conditioners kicking on trying to cool places wit black roof material. It becomes a solar mass in hot weather.

Really? I haven't been affected. Yet, I guess.

The story was that they had capacity offline for maintenance prep for heavy summer usage. All powerstations are online statewide now.

Todays high: 101F

Tomorrows pred high: 79F (cold front comming in)

I'm pretty sure the blackouts were intentional, not accidental.
