mmmm Sodium Hydroxide, a base that will depropanate a phenol but not cause an elimination reaction, allowing it to form an ether through an SN2 reaction with an alkyl-halide creating an asymmetrical ether.

Edit: Learned about making ethers today in O-Chem.

That's what NaOH reminded me of. Williamson Ether Synthesis. It's okay if you don't get it, a lot of people in the lecture probably stared blankly too.
