Are screw type posts preferable to non screw type posts. These earrings will be relatively expensive (~$1500...that's expensive to me), so it appears the screw type post would provide more "security". At the same time, I don't know if it is a lot less comfortable or has other drawbacks.

I have not seen screwback earrings in a very long time.
I would like them over just the "push" ones though as i would be constantly checking to see if they were still there.

If you are spending that much, get the screw back ones. 🙂

My wife seems to prefer the push ones.

I got her a pair of diamond earrings a while back. The jeweler said he could alter the post anytime I wanted. Maybe that's an option for you?
 
I'm not a girl. But my wife is. I bought her some diamond earrings last year that she loves. She wore them all the time, but complained that the backs weren't secure enough. She just got them mounted 2 weeks ago with screwbacks and has already commented on how much better she feels about wearing her diamonds as frequently as she does.

The worst part about some earrings is that they are lightweight and it's like anything else you wear....you may get so used to having it on that you don't notice when it's not there anymore. It would suck to lose an earring and be stuck without a match.
 
Ok...so from what I'm hearing from everyone is that in general, there are not really drawbacks to screw type posts. I'll probably go in that direction then.

Screwback for any valuable earrings. I'd never feel comfortable wearing them if I had to worry about them falling out all the time. It'd make wearing them a less enjoyable, more stressful experience
 
Costco carries screwbacks, and the diamonds in their earrings are the same quality as the rings they carry.
