Kodak something or other + memory cards + rechargable AAs + bag
then Olympus C700 + memory cards + bag
then Canon S400 + memory cards + extra proprietary battery + bag + mini tripod
then gave that one to mom and bought canon sd400 + memory cards + extra proprietary battery + bag

now considering one of the longer zooms.

and made no mention of video equipment :(

*edit*
forgot about the canon photo printer i bought and never ended up using. guess that would fall under amateur photo stuff.

I don't have time to look up the numbers, but maybe I can sort of guess:

Cameras:
Nikon D70 (w/18-70): $1299
Canon EOS 10D: $1299
Canon S60: $230
Canon A610: $230
Canon G2: $350
Canon EOS 5: $499
Nikon FM2 (w/50 1.4): $400

Lenses:
Canon
28-135 IS: $499
100-400L IS: $1599
Sigma
15-30: ???
70-200 EX HSM: $679
Nikon
50 1.8: $79
35: $320
28: $235
80-200 2.8: $699
28-200: $300

Flashes:
550EX: $359
420EX: $259
SB800: $359
Alien Bees 400: $259
Alien Bees 800 (2): $700

Tripods:
Gitzo G1226 Mk2: $200+???
Bogen 3221W: $119
Gitzo G1564L Mk2 Monopod: $120+???

Heads:
Bogen 488RC2: ???
Bogen 3030: ???

Various light stands, umbrellas, light boxes, reflectors....probably about $750 worth.

That's almost $12k without the items I can't recall. I'm probably missing some things too...I think I have more lenses than that.

The RC2 ballhead is great for lenses 200mm and lower. It's infuriating to use with the Sigma 50-500mm because of all the dip, and with macro where very precise locking and framing is required, the ballhead performs very badly.

Try the 488RC2. Above that, you are looking at RRS and Acratech stuff.

about $1000. i'm lucky enough to be able to borrow some lenses and equipment from my dad, otherwise, it would probably be a few hundred more.

I don't really care to do this. I KNOW my wife doesn't want to know.

digital has made it cheaper.

don't have to send the film out to be developed now,
