After the 3rd post in this thread, in which I outlined that this is about Wisconsin, it should be perfectly clear which legislature is introducing this bill.

It's needs to be obvious in the G** D*** original post of the thread, if not the thread title.

I don't read the whole thread before I click on links. I clicked on it because in your OP it appeared to be US Congress.

I want my 20 seconds back.

I suggest putting down the bong for a while.

I've never been a subscriber to the delusion that government can do a lot to make private-sector jobs.

My anger at this action by the Wisconsin GOP is rooted in the fact that they're wasting time on stupid crap like this when all of their effort... especially given why they said this special session was called... should be put into passing bills that lower taxes, cut government spending, and eliminate unnecessary regulations.

I also think the government, even at the state level, has no business enacting anything to restrict something so social-engineering oriented as whether or not to teach abstinence-only in sex ed.

You should also direct your anger toward the HOR because all they are working on is Social engineering also with absolutely no jobs bills sent to the Senate.

I'm not at all interested in catering to how you want things presented.

No. Small talk is not part of my job, but making legislation is part of their job, whether you agree with the legislation or not.

In the sense that sex education has nothing to do with creating jobs.. their sole purpose for having this special session of the legislature.. yes, the analogy is apt.

Even when they're just pandering to fringe elements in their base, legislating *for* ignorance, it offers the appearance that they're *doing something*, right?

It's simple; don't tell me what to do with my body, money and life. But, I sure as hell can tell you what to do with your body, money and life.

It's the contradipublican's way of living in the USA.

On the contrary, this is the state legislature, which does have ultimate say over what is taught in that state's public education facilities.

If the state passes a law that says the schools can only teach basic arithmetic and no more advanced mathematics than that so as to not make stupid kids feel stupid, that's well within their right.

It's also well within the rights of the people who elected these people to NOT ELECT THEM next time if they pass laws they don't agree with.

I don't have a problem with this bill in a state legislature. I would very, very much have a problem with this bill in the Federal legislature, though.

Funny thing, here in CT (with a Democratic governor and Dem supermajority in the legslature) we are also having a legislative special session next week to focus on jobs. But our special session is actually going to do that and has already reached bipartisan agreement on regulation reformation, increased funding available to small business and to put into place bonding to finance a major coup, luring of a new major biotech center from another state.

Maybe we should adopt the GOP playbook and scrape all these plans and instead legislate about abstinence education, rebanning gay marriage, etc., all that legislative social engineering that is so popular with the tea party/small government crowd.

I think I need to move to CT because putting up with a constant stream of far Right Wing Agenda being made into law is really starting to suck ;)

Don't move just yet. Linda McMahon, the front person for professional wrestling, is running for Congress again. She can easily buy the nomination (again) and this time the Dems don't have anyone strong to run against her.

WI is a great state-I lived there for 13 years and loved it. But back then they were proud of their populist/socialist traditions and the Republicans were colorful but rational.

Man you just hit the nail on the head...are there ANY rational Republicans left?

Of course abstinence-only sex education is jobs related; think of all the OB/GYN clinics, midwives and hospitals who will soon see increased demand from the rise in teen pregnancies, not to mention more future consumers and workers...
