For someone who can afford a 7 series, what else to buy?

Friend's parents are looking for a new 7 series car (BMW) right now and my friend, their son, mentioned it to me. Is there any other car you'd reccomend in that price range? Also, any comments on iDrive and its effects in use as a family car? They won't be racing this or flooring it at all, if ever, and won't be getting much mileage. Probably used for parties and the like.

Seriously.

Either way, Consumer Reports likes the Lexus LS430 the most. Merecedes-Benz S430 was second place. BMW's styling with the new 7 series is either "love it" or "hate it." iDrive has not gotten favorable reviews, but I believe 2k4 7's have an updated version.

what he said. the 5 series are the best IMO.

How about an S600? The choice of the world's leaders and diplomats. How about a Range Rover? The ULTIMATE symbol of wealth in this country.

My friend asked me because I have a love for cars. He didn't ask me because he thought I can wip out HP and torque ratings for every car on the market. Its called a freiend, you at least let them know when you're going to make a big purchase. Oh yeah, the real noobs find others to call noobs in order to advance to the uber noob level.

if they love to drive - get the 7

if they have IQ enuff to master idrive - get the 7
(it is actually very ease to use - like going from std keyboard to lets say the curvy microsoft keyboard) actually it just needs the will to learn it

if not get the MB

if they just want to use it to goto parties (status symbol) stay away from Audi or H2 ... thats the best thing about BMWs - they are an enthusiasts car a drivers car and also a status symbol .... I would go with the 7 .. even with the idrive ... they had lots of bugs in the beginning - know a guy who returned his 7 ... (not because of idrive - he actually like idrive) ... 7 drives like nothing else ... wish they would fire chris bangle ... everybody please vote to fire chrisbangle ... he will single handedly be the result of BMW's fall in the coming years .........

one thing to be a car guy, another to be a car stats guy.. there is a difference. shooting off specs to one car supuriority seems some what juvenile (well i was at that point once in my life.. so not the biggest thing) but that's just how it is..

anyway, the beemer got a 3rd place in a car and driver 70k+ shootout, LS430 won the whole thing. i'm not a big lex fan.. family owned 2 of them, and they didn't really pursue the excellence they claimed.. i say have them take the time to go test drive the potential rides, and go w/ that they like the best. the S class fared last on that test.. suprisingly the jag got a 2nd place finish.. and show em the article.
