for some reason, i know have an IP conflict on my home network

i'm using a DLink 624 802.11g router.

my PC is connected to the router directly and my laptop is wirelessly connecting.

out of the blue, a few days ago, i couldn't access the net with my laptop and got the msg that there was an IP conflict.

i used ipconfig /all on my laptop and it had no IP assigned.

when i turned off my main PC and rebooted my laptop, the laptop connection worked fine. i then booted the PC, but could not connect.

why did this happen all of a sudden & how can I fix?

other semi-pertinent info:
I do have a VOIP box connected to my router and also a switch in the attic to connect the rest of the house to my routerand an HP laserjet on the network via a bridge. however, all of this has been working fine up til a few days ago.

Are all of your clients DHCP, or do some have static IPs?

i normally leave my laptop on 24/7 but i had to take it to the hospital.. i wanted to see if there was an available network there while my wife was in - there wasn't one.

now that i think about it, the problem probably occurred after i got back from the hospital (insert virus pun here).

all my clients are DHCP except for my laserjet. for some reason i could not get the router to recognize it. So, in the printer's setup, i forced the its IP to 192.168.0.120 and configured the router config to force the MAC address of the printer to be the same.

Have you already tried to release and renew the IP address on your laptop? Sounds like maybe another device was issued the IP previously used by your laptop and when it tries to renew the DHCP lease you get the IP conflict.

i've only tried using ipconfig /renew

but i get an error msg - something about the resource isn't available to perform this action...

i get that msg on both the laptop & PC (whichever one that doesn't have the IP assigned at the time).

where do you live in AR? we have family in NLR. the wife has been trying to convince me to move there (from san antonio)

I would release the IP on whichever machine is reporting the duplicate and then renew to see if you succesfully get an IP.

I work in LR, live outside of Hot Springs.

ok. i fixed it - easy enough solution, i don't know why i didn't think of this before.

i uninstalled all my network adapters through control panel.

rebooted, and reinstalled. works fine now.
