My Zalman CNPS9700 fan was going bad, so I decided to try out the Corsair H50 that was on sale at Best Buy. Installed it last night in a Push-Pull configuration, and decided to try to overclock a bit more on my ASUS Crosshair III and Phenom II 965BE which I already had overclocked to 3.6ghz, temps where 33-55 C (idle-full load).
With the H50, I bumped up the multiplier to 18.5x for 3.7ghz. Works great. Temps now are 33-48 C (idle-full load) Prior to this, anything above 3.6 would lock up after a few minutes at full load. No matter what I tried, bumping voltage, tweaking memory timings, etc., I'd have the same result. Definite improvement, so I wanted to go higher.
So, I decided to bump up the multiplier more to 19x with all other settings remaining the same. Settings done in BIOS. Now the system stays at either 3.7ghz or at the idle speed of 800mhz and is stuck at those speeds no matter what load I throw at it. I reboot, it would or might be opposite speed. It kinda has me scratching my head to figure out what's going on.
I do have the Cool n Quiet setting enabled in BIOS, but that never was an issue in the past when testing out overclocks. I don't think I've flashed the BIOS since I've been sitting @ 3.6ghz. I even tried making setting changes in the AMD Fusion Utility. I can see the target speed, but the real speed remains at 3.7 or 800mhz. Wonder if anyone has some suggestions I can try once I get home.
